It's Monday—let me conjur up a vacation for you in my persona as the Jet-Black Magician. Now that the Mid-Autumn moon-gazing days have passed, returning to work brings a sense of whiplash that genuinely calls for a touch of magic. This time, we completed an official photoshoot of Fate/Grand Order Tamamo no Mae (Jet-Black Magician) inside a Vintage study studio. Perched before a polished wooden desk, flicking a Summon Ticket between my fingertips, consider this a little trick gifted to all Masters to help you power through until National Day.

With the release window for Fate/EXTRA Record officially confirmed, our original fox truly deserved some time in the limelight. This styling boasts exceptional visual recognizability: pastel-pink hair crowned with a miniature black top hat, flanked by fox ears and lake-blue ribbons that amplify her vulpine vivacity. The ensemble centers on a black-and-gold formal dress, accented by metallic O-rings and harness strapping across the bodice, while ruffled frills along the waistline and cuffs feature a silver-gray lamé textile that glints with fine micro-sparkles under strobes. Below, over-the-knee Black stockings were paired with glossy high-heeled ankle boots—this textural dialogue elongated vertical leg lines while embodying the character's duality of occult mystique and flirtatious glamour. To ensure a poised, statuesque posture, selecting the footwear took considerable deliberation, testing both heel elevation and toe silhouette through rigorous fitting.

To complement the Vintage study concept, the set was staged with dark-wood bookcases, crystal chandeliers, and fringed floor lamps. Warm amber lighting bathed the room, conjuring a rich, oil-painting aesthetic. Beyond the Summon Ticket and golden command cards, props included an antique rotary telephone, ceramic tea sets, and weighty tomes with gilded English spines. Sitting atop the expansive wooden desk with one knee drawn up, cradling the receiver or fanning golden cards, effortlessly summoned a confident, composed, and playful state of mind. Custom white cards inscribed with text were also placed across the set to embellish compositions.

Posing demanded continuous calibration—alternating between crossing legs on an armchair or leaning against the desk flank. Because the dress cuffs flared generously, handling props required keeping the ruffles from occluding facial light paths while locking a sharp focus with the eyes. The photographer utilized the floor-to-ceiling bookcases as a dynamic backdrop, relying on shallow depth of field to make the subject pop crisply. Seated poses necessitated maintaining taut leg curvature while upholding regal spine alignment. Given the abundance of vintage props, repositioning meant re-styling books, teacups, and the rotary phone to preserve compositional balance.

Shooting inside an enclosed study concentrates heat, and because the garment fabric incorporated shimmering metallic lamé fibers sensitive to specular highlights, fixture placement and flash output were dialed in meticulously. Quick cosmetic touch-ups between takes—particularly lipstick and eye contouring—kept my complexion vibrant beneath warm strobes. The final output exceeded expectations; transparent communication beforehand and seamless on-set chemistry made all the difference.

From changing, wig fitting, and ornament placement to fine-tuning angles under studio lights, every beat demanded patience. The chromatic palette harmonized warm walnut browns, deep blacks, and gold, accented with delicate pinks and cerulean blues. Seeing the Magician cosplay's shadowy allure preserved so completely made all the meticulous labor worthwhile. Now, it's time to pack away the gear and prepare for the next shoot.
