[Ryuge Kisaki cosplay] Blue Archive Chinese-Style Bunny girl: Moody Bar Shoot

For this session, we shot a Chinese-style Bunny girl fan derivative concept of Ryuge Kisaki from Blue Archive at the Ruyuan Film Bar studio. Kisaki, as the head of Xuanlong Gate at Shanhaijing Senior High School, carries an innate aura of cold composure; alongside the seductive elements of this fan work, I wanted to preserve her aloof, commanding dignity. Modeled by Daixi, the outfit paired a glossy black patent-leather corset with a white long-sleeved shirt and an oversized black bow. The gold-embroidered totems offered rich texture, while massive glossy black bunny ears, Black stockings, and red-bottom heels delivered maximum visual impact.

Pre-production and on-site lighting control required substantial effort. Gear-wise, I shot on a Fujifilm X-M5 paired with an 18-50mm f/2.8 lens. To balance ambient warm light while retaining a vintage golden undertone, I dialed the camera's color temperature to 5000K, which, alongside a subtle soft-diffusion filter, locked down the mood. Low-key lighting was the backbone of this bar studio photoshoot. Complex ambient lights put our lighting control to the test: my setup relied on a low floor light for base exposure and two Amaran lights for key and fill. Crucially, a hard yellow light projected through the exterior blinds carved out a stunning hair-rim light. Keeping ambient levels subdued allowed the subject to pop, carving out a deep, mysterious, and richly layered atmosphere.

For camera placement, I leaned heavily into high-angle top-down shots. Framing downward from elevated vantage points incorporated both the pool table and vintage counter backdrop, instantly opening up scene depth. When shooting began, Daixi was slightly stiff, so I guided her through subtle micro-actions: resting her chin on one hand by the counter, holding a glassware tumbler, or perching on the pool table with a cue. At f/2.8, background clutter dissolved into soft bokeh, pulling the viewer's focus straight to the subject with a balanced blend of sharp foreground and atmospheric blur.

The low-key bar setting truly tested the interplay between hard rim lighting and soft interior fills—hard light delineating contours while room tones built dimensional depth. Whether sprawling across a leather couch raising a leg to flaunt the red soles or catching shadows sliced through blinds, the entire series aimed for a retro cinematic aesthetic. Navigating the adjustments was demanding, but seeing the interplay of black and gold amid high-contrast lighting made every tweak worthwhile.
