Bringing Cartethyia to life in this Cartethyia Cosplay was truly a massive undertaking. From the very beginning of fabric sourcing, to capture that elusive shade of blue nestled between a star-studded cosmos and the deep ocean, we compared seven or eight different textile swatches before finally choosing this subtly lustrous pearlescent satin for the outer mantle, paired over a structured black inner bodice. The two white ribbons cascading from the chest had to maintain sharp structure; their gilded metallic accents were bonded by hand piece by piece, keeping the edges immaculate and free of adhesive residue. The gilded hanging cross pendant along the hip produced faint, crisp clinks with every step—tactile micro-details that grounded me instantly into character.
The prop weapon demanded our longest fabrication timeline. To achieve the aesthetic fusion of withered gnarled wood and blue crystal shards, we sculpted the crystal base using polymer clay, followed by wet-sanding and gradient lacquer paint; the intertwining withered branches wrapping around the core were fashioned from heat-shrink tubing and armature wire. It carried noticeable heft in the hand, but we hollowed and lightened the internal framework as much as possible to allow stable one-handed wielding. The gloves were crafted from supple black leather and lined with thin fleece for anti-slip grip, providing a secure hold on the weapon. The exaggerated left gauntlet vambrace was edged with semi-flexible rubberized materials to prevent breakage amidst dense convention crowds, preserving a razor-sharp visual silhouette while ensuring crowd safety.
On the makeup front, because the character possesses icy-blue eyes, I chose cosmetic contact lenses with soft outer limbal rings. Rather than using conventional black liquid eyeliner, I diffused deep navy-blue eyeshadow across the outer corners and illuminated the inner corners with silver shimmer, creating a dimensional gradient under camera flashes. Applying the headpiece was equally meticulous: the pointed elf ears were blended onto my natural ears using scar wax and theatrical adhesive, with multiple layers of skin-tone foundation buffed across the seams to ensure a seamless transition on camera. The sharp horns atop the crown were built around internal wire armatures and interwoven directly into the wig fibers with extra-hold hairspray to eliminate wobbling during strides and posing.
Shooting on the convention floor was fast-paced and intense. With heavy foot traffic everywhere, we staked out a relatively uncluttered corner. For the seated pose in Photo 2, to elongate leg lines while showcasing the cascading drape of the skirt hem, I leaned back against my hips, crossed my knees, and kept my insteps pointed taut. The height of the stilettos proved to be a double-edged sword—while sculpting gorgeous leg contours, standing on hard flooring was genuinely painful. For the standing pose in Photo 3, to best present the proportion between the prop and full-body silhouette, I held the weapon aloft in one hand while gracefully elevating the other with relaxed shoulders. The photographer fired a rapid burst and caught that precise, focused gaze. Despite the chaotic venue lights, gentle post-production contrast tweaks made the blues pop vibrantly. With the outfit's daring bare-skin cuts and low necklines, dynamic movement was heavily restricted; every sit or bend required continuous caution against wardrobe slips. Before each shift in pose, I took a deep breath to stabilize my center of gravity, keeping lines fluid and organic. This convention shoot sparked wonderful conversations with photographers, assistants, and fellow fans about prop materials and tailoring nuances, making it a thoroughly rewarding convention experience.
