The Christmas red and white color scheme has always been the most eye-catching theme of winter. This time, in the Beijing Fantasy Space studio, using dual GCA30C lights and partnering with photographer Lanqiao Shendeng, we completed this set of Christmas 2B "pre-made dish" movement references for this studio shoot.
The costume preparation on the day of the shoot actually took a lot of thought. The short white hair was paired with a red velvet dress featuring lace and white plush patchwork details on the chest, maintaining the character's features while balancing the festive Christmas vibe. Added with that bling-bling red glowing reindeer antler accessory on top of the head, it instantly brought out a lively winter aura.
The framework for this set of poses was determined before the shoot, primarily aiming to produce a set of movement reference images for everyone, so the shutter was clicked very densely. The lighting ratio from the dual-light system was controlled very evenly, and under the large-aperture lens, the simulated flame light in the fireplace looked exceptionally warm and natural. The venue was decorated with many rich small props, such as the classic Nutcracker soldier, a giant red bow, red-and-white candy canes, as well as a wooden rocking chair and gift boxes, which played a wonderful role in building an immersive Christmas indoor atmosphere.
Actually, the biggest challenge of this photo set lay in the combination of high heels and stockings. Especially when striking a pose standing on one leg with the other lifted, or lying flat on the carpet with legs hanging upside down, the offset of the center of gravity placed a high demand on core strength. The wine-red over-the-knee stockings had a certain glossy reflection under the warm lighting. To accommodate the highlight details of the legs and avoid overexposure or loss of texture, the photographer repeatedly adjusted the positions of the reflector and softbox, ultimately ensuring the skin tone was restored cleanly and the detailed textures of the props were clearly visible.
Regarding the dual GCA30C lights, its expressive power was indeed quite good when shooting scenes dominated by large areas of red and yellow color blocks. Whether it was the red Christmas tree ornaments, the red velvet backdrop fabric, or the big red bow, there was no severe highlight clipping, leaving plenty of room for post-production adjustments. This set of photos can basically be considered straight out of the camera, with a very high color fidelity.
Going back to the so-called "pre-made dish" style, it is actually more direct and efficient than many carefully planned blockbusters; the key lies in the pose design and venue arrangement before shooting. Throughout the entire process of this cosplay photoshoot, we maintained a very fast rhythm—as long as the composition was fine and the emotions and posture were in place, the shutter was pressed immediately, yielding a very high output rate. The burning orange-red light and shadow in the fireplace, combined with the surrounding red ambient light, easily pull the viewer into a comfortable winter atmosphere.
The waist-baring design on the costume styling, combined with the plush edges and halter neck style, both showcased the character's sleek silhouette and matched the playful festive mood. I hope this Christmas cosplay studio shoot set can pass on the accurate restoration of this winter-themed shoot and some joyful inspiration.
