Shooting The Shorekeeper in a studio shoot again after a year, I completely reworked the plan from makeup and styling to lighting. This time, the makeup specifically enhanced a sense of coldness and translucency, reducing the saturation of the eyeshadow, and the lip color was chosen to lean toward a nude pink tone. Complemented by a slightly layered ice-blue wig, the overall look feels less awkward compared to the first shoot, adding more of the serene temperament I wanted to convey.
In terms of setting, a large number of flower walls with a blue and white style base were chosen this time, paired with dim ambient light to create a semi-enclosed dreamy feel. Ice-blue butterfly props were specially embellished on the veil, cuffs, and fingertips, echoing beautifully with the lightweight tulle material of the dress. During the shoot, I consciously varied several common poses, such as sitting, side-sitting, and leaning against a table while playing with a butterfly, trying my best to avoid stiff standing postures.
The photographer's lighting heavily emphasized the translucency of the skirt hem and veil, especially when the side-backlighting hit, making the white and blue layers distinct, with the folds of the tulle shimmering subtly. This session also gave me a new understanding of mastering the character's physical state and presence in front of the camera; the naturalness of interacting with costumes and props requires repeated adjustments. Although this set of photos does not feature complex outdoor real-life locations, the layout of the indoor flower sea combined with cool-toned lighting still fits the ethereal temperament of the character's setting perfectly.
The presentation of a full work is inseparable from sufficient early preparation; mastering the blue and white style tones and arranging the fluffiness of the veil are all experiences accumulated from this shoot. The shooting process went smoother than imagined, thanks to the coordination of the studio and the photographer. Next, I will bring this experience into subsequent character creations for Cosplay photography.
