This time, I'm bringing Marie Rose from Dead or Alive. Choosing to take selfies in this indoor environment with everyday lighting is to present a sense of vividness that differs from pure studio shoots.
The Blonde twin tails are a highly distinct feature of this character, cooperating with the bluntly cut bangs to quickly seize the visual focus in styling. Before wearing the wig, I specially adjusted the hairline position at the crown and used high-strength styling spray to secure the twin tails on both sides, letting them cascade naturally while maintaining a crisp shape, avoiding looking too flat or soft. The thickness of the hair ends and the natural curvature of the bangs were adjusted repeatedly several times before achieving a balanced state.
Regarding the makeup, Marie Rose's skin tone leans pale, so I selected a foundation one shade lighter, emphasizing the transition of the under-eye blush and the flush from under the eyes to the eyelids to create that slightly youthful yet energetic facial contour. The eye makeup focuses on elongating the outer corners of the eyes, paired with deep brown inner eyeliner to increase the depth of the gaze, while the eyes utilized blue-gray contact lenses, which can both restore the character's eye color and make the gaze appear clearer and brighter under natural light.
The costume is the core key to this shoot. The upper body is a white lace tube top covered with exquisite cutout patterns; this material requires special attention to slip prevention and shaping during actual wear. A black wide leather belt and a choker connected to it are layered at the waist, with the metal ring on the front of the choker serving as the crowning touch. To ensure the belt fits snugly, I used double-sided tape at the waist, allowing the black leather material to form a strong visual contrast with the white lace. Additionally, the black detached sleeves on both sides of the shoulders add layers to the arm section, allowing the overall Lace outfit to retain the crispness unique to a battle suit.
The transparent storage box on the left and the green plant on the right in the background add a bit of a slice-of-life vibe to the photos. Instead of using strong lights, the warm ambient indoor lighting on set was used. This light is very soft, making the skin look finer while allowing the sheen of the blonde hair and leather gear to show through. This semi-everyday, semi-character state feels more fitting for the character's lightweight and agile personality in the game.
Preparing this costume took quite a bit of thought, especially the accessory details, such as the black ribbons on the twin tails—how to tie them beautifully without looking cumbersome really took trying several tying methods in front of the mirror. However, the final result brings a great sense of achievement.
The wig texture was treated this time so that it wouldn't look overly reflective, closer to the sheen of real hair strands. The straight bangs cover most of the forehead, which makes the face shape appear smaller, but it also tests the three-dimensionality of the facial features, so I enhanced the contrast of shadows and highlights at the nose bridge and tip.
The interconnected design of this choker and belt is a highly core visual element of this costume. When wearing it, care must be taken to distribute the force evenly and not strap it too tightly; otherwise, it will severely affect the natural line of the neck or even affect turning the head. I specially padded a small piece of cotton cloth inside to relieve the pressure.
The light and shadow of the green plants hitting the shoulders create nice layers. The entire photo didn't undergo much post-processing, mainly restoring the feeling observed on-site. When doing this Game character cosplay normally, these natural and unembellished moments are often the ones that touch me the most.
Toying with the clothing strap in my hand, I can feel that reserved yet slightly playful trait of this character. She isn't the type of character who is very ostentatious at first glance, but if you look closely at her details, you will find her design thinking is actually highly sophisticated, blending cuteness and sharpness just right.
These are some of my thoughts and records on this Marie Rose cosplay, hoping to offer a bit of reference value to friends who like this character, and allowing myself to better remember this experience.
