Getting straight to the point, this Jeanne d'Arc cosplay photo set as Avenger class shot at Firefly ACG Expo was actually a challenging yet exciting endeavor. This black-and-red color-blocked dress required extremely meticulous adjustments during final fitting, from material choices to trim stitching. To convey a texture that feels both elegant and subtly villainous, we specially selected black velvet fabric as the primary material, paired with vibrant fluorescent hot-pink satin as lining and sleeve accents. Abundant stiff transparent mesh netting was added along the edges of the full skirt and cuffs, allowing the tension of the skirt and sleeves to instantly flare open during every posture extension, forming a sharp and powerful dynamic arc.

Matching the character's designated hairstyle, the silver-white short straight hair features a playful tuft sticking up at the crown (ahoge), flanked on both sides by striking exaggerated red flower hair accessories and a black leather-textured crown adorned with red teardrop pendants. Managing this wig in practice really tests a cosplayer's control over frizz, requiring a balance of texture and naturalness without appearing greasy from over-styling. For makeup, I focused on eye makeup and contact lens pairing. Amber-gold contacts, combined with slender reddish-brown eyeliner and blended outward eyeshadow, effectively highlighted the character's aloof and sharp battle-ready aura without looking overly exaggerated. Under the clear natural lighting at the Firefly ACG Expo venue, it looked vibrant and added immense points in front of the lens.

Regarding visual highlights of this costume, I consider the most recognizable feature to be the huge black velvet rose choker at the neck. It carries a touch of vintage gothic splendor while using dark, large-volume ornamentation to balance the visual center of gravity, refining shoulder and neck lines to look even sleeker. To complement the overall tone, I intentionally wore delicate rings with red gemstone textures; these minor details were all tailored to fit the character's unique design sense. During the actual day of shooting, we encountered quite a few practical difficulties. The foot traffic at Firefly ACG Expo was massive, and finding a relatively clean background without passersby entering the frame often required waiting for tens-of-seconds gaps, testing patience and on-the-spot reactions.

However, the venue lighting conditions were actually ideal for photographing this black-and-red contrasting outfit. Massive glass curtain walls created clear, bright diffuse light, a pure natural soft light that perfectly outlined the silky sheen of black velvet and the vivid brightness of red lining. During the shoot, I specifically experimented with two different styles tailored to venue conditions. One was dynamic snapshots to capture the character's agility, such as capturing the moment the skirt swung up during jumps and swift spins—the interweaving of black stiff mesh and bright red satin drew beautiful curves in the air, flying together with wide ruffle sleeves on the arms to create an exceptionally bold dynamic outline full of tension. The other was static close-up shots focusing on eye contact and hand posture interactions. Under the sleeveless tailoring design, smooth lines of shoulders, neck, and collarbones were showcased flawlessly, maintaining expected character mystery while revealing a touch of Jeanne d'Arc Alter's exclusive disposition.

The venue photographer was extremely patient, repeatedly searching for optimal shooting angles amidst crowds and fine-tuning shutter speeds to pursue that ideal dynamic blend of motion and sharpness. Because the hoop skirt's support structure was wide, shifting and controlling body center of gravity during leg raises or turn poses became focal points for the camera lens. Paired with black semi-sheer tights and eye-catching pink bows on the shoe backs, we tried various angles for foot movements—whether the power-gathering moment of tiptoeing before a jump or the elegant standing pose at the freeze-frame finish—aiming to make overall compositions richer in story sense and lively vitality rather than stiff, lifeless standing poses. Looking back at this convention photoshoot experience at Firefly ACG Expo, despite carrying heavy prop boxes, wearing complex layered dresses, and navigating dense crowds being physically exhausting, seeing the fierce visual impact of black and red color-blocking through the viewfinder and immersing myself fully into the serene yet resolute spiritual world of Fate/Grand Order made all the fatigue and sweat worthwhile. This isn't merely copying costume and makeup, but a deep resonance with character essence. Hence, the photo selection process was exceptionally refined, preserving the authentic light and shadow atmosphere of the convention while ensuring every selected composition remained clean and crisp, perfectly interpreting the collision of black gothic style with silver-white hair and red accents.
