[Xingwei Maoguan cosplay] Neverness to Everness: A High-Fidelity Recreation Under Cyber Neon

Bringing to life this Xingwei Maoguan cosplay from Neverness to Everness took quite a long time to prepare, from early makeup testing to the final shoot. What drew me most to this character was that slightly languid yet cool Cyberpunk vibe, so we specifically chose a venue section with high-contrast neon hues for our set.

Let's start with hair and makeup. The short silver-white wig is the soul of this look—the strands needed to be fluffy without being messy, with a tiny ahoge sticking up at the crown, complemented by a black headband to frame my face into a small and delicate shape. For makeup, I skipped heavy, dark eyeshadow in favor of a warm pearlescent base with a subtle pinkish-brown blend near the outer corners of my eyes, paired with light pink lip gloss. This neutralized the chilly feel of silver hair, giving my overall aura a more vivid and approachable warmth.

We really poured immense effort into costume details. The dark navy jacket is sharply tailored with structured fabric to support crisp shoulder lines. The standout feature is the pinkish-purple holographic iridescent paneled fabric along the collar and shoulders, which catches neon lights on set to produce stunning polarized light reflections with an inherent futuristic feel. Metallic zippers, custom silver hardware fasteners, and techwear webbing straps are stitched across the jacket, maxing out its premium quality. The crisp white pointed-collar shirt tucked underneath, paired with a soft pinkish-purple tie, offers a school uniform feel while harmonizing colorfully with the jacket's iridescent accents.

The bottom features a dark high-waisted pleated skirt, which visually elongates leg proportions nicely. The waist design is unique—a wide belt with a silver square buckle, flanked by a tactical pouch that adds a sharp decorative accent. On the legs, the iridescent thigh ring pops vividly under cool-toned stage lights, injecting a swift, battle-ready agent vibe into the ensemble. Black leather wrist gauntlets on my arms further add depth and completeness to the Anime cosplay styling.

The shooting venue itself was incredibly photogenic. Blue and purple neon lights, background metallic framing, and scattered holographic reflective spheres constructed an authentic Cyberpunk style atmosphere. I personally adore Photo 3, looking back over my shoulder with a hand gesture—the motion and gaze perfectly captured the character's casual yet playfully confident personality, while background bokeh and light halos made the subject stand out three-dimensionally. The reaching hand gesture in Photo 1 feels delightfully interactive, whereas Photo 4, holding small items before me, brings out a cool, grounded daily feel.

There were many fellow fans and attendees on set during the shoot day; the male character next to me and the pink-haired female character in the background were both outstanding cosplayers, creating a very warm, harmonious atmosphere. Working with the photographer, we focused heavily on capturing neon light flowing across iridescent fabrics and rendering accurate skin textures under varying light sources. In outdoor or artificial set environments, the biggest challenge lies in color temperature control—cluttered lighting can distort original makeup and fabric colors. Thankfully, color accuracy in these final Convention photos was deeply satisfying, presenting a cool-toned cyber-metropolis aesthetic.

Refining this look allowed me to appreciate the complex beauty of this character even deeper—blending the coolness of future battlefields with vivid 2D visual tension. I believe fans following Neverness to Everness will resonate with these photos, as this modern urban techwear style aligns seamlessly with current aesthetic trends.
