This Touhou Project Moriya Suwako set was shot at Lake Kawaguchi by Mount Fuji on November 23, 2024, perfectly timed with peak autumn foliage. Discussing the concept with photographer Tieban Youyu, our goal was to leverage the crimson maples, traditional architecture, and Mount Fuji in the distance to fit the character's native lore. The styling highlighted her frog-eyed straw hat and red cords, establishing a visual dialogue with the surrounding autumn maples. The dark vest over the white ruffled skirt, paired with white stockings and gold arm bangles, maintained her enigmatic charm while introducing rich visual depth.

Lighting throughout the day was dynamic, allowing us to utilize sunlight filtering through tree canopies. Dappled light and shadow fell naturally across my face and straw hat, crafting an effortless mood without harsh artificial strobes. For crouching and seated poses, blurred foreground maples served as natural framing elements to enrich depth of field while seamlessly grounding the character within the foliage. The seated shot used side backlighting to trace the contours of the legs and ruffled skirt, casting a soft halo through the white stockings that harmonized with a filmic grade.

To frame the distant Mount Fuji, we captured standing poses against the shrine structures to achieve expansive environmental portraiture. Post-processing balanced light ratios and color harmony, softening harsh highlights while gently lifting shadows to keep skin tones warm and luminous without losing focus to the vivid autumn leaves. The chest brooch, frog charms, and gold rings all rendered with crisp texture under the backlight, making this Lake Kawaguchi autumn photography excursion a thoroughly rewarding creative journey.
