This set of Kawawa Shizuko's summer beach swimwear photos is freshly out. The photography was captured by teacher Lan Lin from Doudou's studio, and the overall scene arrangement perfectly fits the refreshing atmosphere of the summer events in the game.
Regarding the reproduction of this look, quite a lot of thought was spent on a few key details. First is that massive hair accessory on top of the head featuring beast ears styling and a halo element. Spliced in pink, white, and black, and embellished with red hibiscus flowers, its overall recognition is exceptionally high, perfectly matching the character's attributes.
For this shoot, we also applied subtraction to the makeup and styling. The base makeup didn't use an overly heavy foundation but emphasized a clear and glossy texture to highlight a vivid complexion under the summer sun. The hairstyle is the character's iconic long straight black hair with blunt bangs, tied into low twin tails. To ensure the hair strands looked smooth enough under the light and shadow, it was combed at any time during the shoot.
The scene setup was highly dedicated—the blue lifebuoy, vintage anchor, white Roman columns, and the picnic basket on the small round table made it full of elements without looking cluttered. The reed parasol and wooden beach chair built a rich island vacation style for this Summer Film.
In the first picture, my single-leg standing pose holding a cocktail tray showcases a sense of lightweight agility, requiring good control of the center of gravity while keeping the arms stable. The second picture is a kneeling posture leaning against the lifebuoy, utilizing the lifebuoy's lines and circular composition to lower the frame's focus, adding a touch of laziness and coziness to the mood.
Regarding the costume material this time, we selected a swimwear piece with ruffled pleats. The pink saturation is quite low, so it isn't exceptionally flashy, but the texture is excellent. Paired with the white halter straps, the overall visual impression is extremely gentle and cute.
The shoot took place in the middle of summer. A very strong overhead light was simulated in the studio. Although it felt hot, to display the character's high-spirited side on the summer beach, one couldn't slack off in front of the lens. This set of movement designs has a highly natural Japanese daily-life feel, which probably also benefited from the back-and-forth communication between the two of us. Photographer Lan Lin from Doudou's studio is excellent at capturing these dynamic moments for this swimwear photography project.
From photo selection to post-processing, this set of photos preserved the natural light and shadow in the original shots. The traces of post-editing are very subtle, primarily unifying the background's color tones. To me, capturing the character's soul is always more important than pure techniques and equipment in cosplay.
Although the character Kawawa Shizuko is set as delicate in Blue Archive, her inner self is highly resilient. During this shoot, I also hoped to convey these traits. A moment of rest on the beach chair, leisure time holding a sparkling drink—behind each photo actually hides a very vivid scene story.
I hope everyone can feel the healing atmosphere of Blue Archive and the cross-dimensional joy brought by cosplay through this set of photos for my Summer Film archive. Finally, special thanks again to photographer @Lan Lin from Doudou's studio and the entire logistics team; the cooperation was highly pleasant.
