[Shimoe Koharu cosplay] Pink-haired honor student from Blue Archive, on-location Campus photography

Preparing the props for Shimoe Koharu's casual outfit from Blue Archive made me realize early on that this shoot would be a hardcore recreation. From the pink wig with straight bangs to the striking red-and-white concentric halo atop my head, plus the black feather decorations dangling on both sides, assembling and securing these details took considerable prep time. Putting on this black-dominated loose jacket—accented with pink trim at the collar and cuffs—paired with a pleated skirt, white over-the-knee socks, and platform leather shoes created her signature black-and-pink color scheme. When readying the rifle prop for the shoot, I intentionally tied on pink ribbons and tiny charms, infusing a touch of personal character flair into an otherwise cold weapon.

The shooting location was set in a classroom arranged much like a study hall, featuring wooden desks, wooden flooring, and a whole row of dark wooden bookshelves. The shelves were filled with various books, giving off a strong flavor of campus life. Considering her personality traits, I felt the poses shouldn't be overly stiff or rigid, but should instead express a casual yet slightly stubborn feel in a school setting. Thus came several shots seated on classroom desks. That pose in the photos—sitting on the edge of a desk with legs extending forward naturally—took many attempts to find proper balance, extending overall body proportions while bringing out the layered depth of the white over-the-knee socks and shoes.

The photographer utilized different focal lengths when framing these shots. Wide-angle or lower camera positions yielded excellent visual impact; for instance, in the shot where I hold books and glance back, the ceiling light was framed perfectly, looking like a candid moment captured around a classroom corner. In other scenes, I chose to directly hold the rifle prop to demonstrate the character's agility. Holding the prop made me realize that accuracy is vital—having a comfortable grip allows props to blend naturally into movements. These top-down angled shots, paired with a slightly leaning stance, perfectly brought out the character's tsundere demeanor.

When shooting the "shh" gesture in photo 6, I was actually mimicking her daily mischievous and playfully secretive attitude. Placing an index finger against my lips paired with the headpiece and long pink hair looked very playful, creating a sharp contrast with her serious state when holding the rifle. To match the overall outfit, lighting was intentionally tuned to soft cool tones, preventing the black-and-pink color palette from feeling overly heavy while building contrast against the wooden classroom elements and warm-toned books, making the overall image texture much more three-dimensional.

Compared to studio shoots, on-location shooting creates a lived-in feel, but also presents unexpected challenges. For instance, natural light in this classroom shifted over time, requiring constant diffuser/reflector board adjustments with the photographer to ensure skin tone and costume colors weren't warped by reflected glare. The pleated skirt under the jacket hem creased easily when sitting down, so I had to re-arrange the skirt and socks between every pose to keep everything crisp and presentable on camera. Furthermore, to convey her sharp edge, I deliberately held back excessive smiles in facial expression control, maintaining focus and seriousness during rifle-holding poses.

After shooting all day, my body adapted to the weight of this ensemble, though headpiece stability required constant vigilance. Yet seeing the final photos made every repeated adjustment feel worthwhile. On-location Anime cosplay with school themes demands high scenario compatibility—even a small mismatch can ruin the immersion. Fortunately, elements like the classroom, bookshelves, and map wall closely aligned with her daily setting, bringing this slightly stubborn yet endearing pink-haired character to life. Overall, this Shimoe Koharu cosplay shoot was a challenging yet incredibly fun location experience, and I look forward to trying more campus-themed characters in Campus photography future projects.
