Preparing this Shiromuku photoshoot for Selena from Punishing: Gray Raven took around three weeks. The outfit features multiple intricate layers, requiring assistance from others to fasten everything properly. Underneath the white base robe with blue-purple piping, the obi sash and cuffs are adorned with floral embroidery. To match the Shiromuku aesthetic, I chose golden tassels paired with a sheer white bridal veil for headwear, swaying gently with each step. The fox mask in my hand was hand-painted by myself to complement the color scheme of the ensemble.

The set was arranged in an indoor studio, anchored by wooden steps and lattice windows, flanked by cascading wisteria blossoms hanging from above. A reflective surface was laid across the floor to simulate water reflections. For lighting, we utilized cool-toned blue-purple lights; the key light shone diagonally from above, filtering through floral branches to cast natural, dappled light patterns across the fabric and white veil. During shooting, I constantly monitored the drape of the veil to prevent it from obstructing my facial expressions.

The geta clogs were about ten centimeters high, requiring careful balance adjustments when standing. When shooting, I tried to focus my poses on transitional moments—rising, turning around, or lifting my hands. The cut of the dress and the hemline length revealed the leg lines just right, which, paired with white tabi socks and geta straps, became a standout highlight of this styling. The photographer captured plenty of low-angle and high-angle perspectives.

The character Selena embodies a temperament that blends cool detachment with gentle tenderness, and the Shiromuku setting adds an extra layer of classical grace. Throughout the shoot, I refrained from deliberately smiling, relying mostly on my gaze and subtle hand gestures to interact with the lens. Half-concealing my face with the mask or softly lifting the bridal veil felt natural and helped evoke an aura of mystery. Decorative items arranged on the wooden stairs—such as candles, white rabbits, and peach pastries—served as charming accents.

To better display the garment's rich layering, movements couldn't be too broad, avoiding any distortion of the silhouette. Both lifting and lowering my arms required careful attention to ensure smooth, flowing lines in the sleeves. Blue colored contacts and red lip makeup were key focal points, creating a striking contrast against long black hair with blunt bangs. I touched up my makeup several times mid-shoot, particularly the lips. The overall palette was strictly confined to purple, blue, and white to keep vibrant foreign colors from disrupting visual harmony.

The photographer placed great emphasis on composition, using foreground blossoms in many frames to enhance depth. Every photo underwent attempts from multiple angles, spanning from tight close-ups to full-body shots. Water reflections added visual depth, ensuring even static seated poses never felt stiff. The hit rate of usable photos from this shoot was quite high; lighting and composition were mostly straight out of camera with minor color grading. Although built in an indoor set, the sense of space was executed well through the interplay of reflectors and backdrop drapes. The entire process was physically demanding—wearing geta clogs for extended periods leaves the feet aching—yet seeing the final results made everything worthwhile. If given the chance next time, I'd love to explore outdoor natural light shoots to merge Japanese style elements with nature through Cosplay photography.
