[Evernight cosplay] Honkai: Star Rail — Astral Traveler in the Warm March Sun

This time I'm cosplaying Evernight from Honkai: Star Rail, featuring a design that blends black, white, and red elements. The shoot took place on an outdoor wooden terrace overlooking the city skyline. Thanks to the recent wonderful weather, the sunlight was bright yet soft, perfectly outlining the character's silhouette.

Let's start with the makeup and styling details. The wig is a muted, cool-toned light pink rather than a highly saturated bright pink, which presented a slight challenge to recreate accurately. To stay true to the character, I specifically looked for a wig with smooth fibers and decent volume. To complement the profile angles, I used invisible clips to boost the volume at the crown, creating a natural, fluffy curve under the light. Black bow clips were attached to both sides of the forehead—not only as decorations, but also to secure stray hairs and give the hairstyle a sleeker look. For the eye makeup, I chose red-orange colored contacts paired with dark eyeliner and blended red eyeshadow to ensure a gaze that felt distant yet focused. Considering the strong natural outdoor light, I applied a clear, semi-matte base, keeping the highlights and contouring soft. I chose a natural dusty rose lip color so I wouldn't look overly pale in the sun.

The costume design is actually very layered. The main piece is a black jacket with subtle surface textures and silver-white piping. The fit is tailored to the body without excessive wrinkling. The most distinctive part is the neckline: a white shirt stand-collar paired with a red necktie knot, featuring a unique silver metal badge pinned right in the center that catches subtle reflections in the sunlight. The shoulders lead into layered white sleeves made of a lightweight material that extend down to the wrists, tucking into shiny black leather gloves. The gloves fit snugly, offering high flexibility when holding the umbrella or posing without looking clumsy.

The most crucial prop in this shoot was the long-handled umbrella. Black on the outside and red on the inside, the inner dark-red canopy features a star-like dotted print. When opened, it served not just as a prop, but as the visual anchor of the frame. During the shoot, I constantly had to adjust the tilt of the umbrella and the height of my left hand. Opening my left fingers slightly added an upward sense of extension to the stance, creating a balance of strength and form with the curved handle. The photographer and I were completely in sync; they quickly captured the moment I raised the umbrella and tilted my head up. Sunlight filtered past the umbrella's edge onto my cheek, making my red eyes glisten softly as my gaze drifted into the upper left space of the frame.

The location added so much to the final result. The terrace featured wooden decking that glowed with a beautiful warm yellow tone under the sun, perfectly matching the feeling of 'so warm, just like March.' In the background, the blurred brown brick wall and blue metal pillars added depth and urban realism. The March sunlight was truly gentle; side-backlighting hit my wig and shoulders, casting a golden-pink halo around my silhouette. To adapt to this high-contrast natural light, I carefully adjusted my stance to face the camera and turn slightly to the left, capturing the light while maintaining the 3D contour of my features.

Shooting outdoors in full gear for several hours was quite physically demanding. Holding the large umbrella while controlling my gaze to find the camera required steady breathing. Although the character conveys a distant and cool demeanor, standing in the gentle March breeze allowed me to feel a soft yet firm strength. Working with the photographer was seamless as we patiently searched for the optimal lighting angles in the same scene. Reviewing the final photos, it felt as though the warm March sun and breeze were truly frozen in time with the click of the shutter.
