This cosplay photoshoot featuring Kimihiro Watanuki from xxxHOLiC was completed at Fuzhou Qingkong Studio. During initial creative discussions with photographer @ZhanmaNo3, we decided to integrate Ancient style photography elements, utilizing the studio's timber architecture and landscaped indoor pool to build an atmosphere distinct from a traditional tatami room. For wardrobe, this Japanese-style outfit yukata was centered around muted grey-blue tones, complemented by sprawling coral-orange and white floral patterns. To capture the character's melancholic, languid temperament, facial contouring was intentionally softened, keeping the iconic round-frame spectacles as the central visual anchor.

The studio set was elaborately dressed on shoot day. Intertwined white blossom branches and cascading sheer drapes paired with haze from a fog machine to imbue the space with serene, secluded mystique. The gaffer utilized Amaran lighting gear, including fixtures like Halo and Ray; the key light struck diagonally from the left, illuminating the garment's rich chromatic layers while casting delicate, soft gradients across the face. Because the layered robes were relatively heavy, broad movements were restricted, so the first sequence featured an upright seated posture on a wooden platform. To infuse narrative depth into the eyes, I kept my gaze vacant and distant, channeling Watanuki's sensory reality as one who perceives spirits.

In the second sequence, we transitioned to a reclining posture across woven tatami mats beside glowing warm yellow lanterns. This low-angle downward perspective tested facial discipline, where over-relaxing could easily read as lethargic. Regulating my breathing allowed the body to drape organically, letting the round spectacles slip slightly down the nose bridge to evoke a half-awake, reverie-like state. Though appearing casually recumbent, core engagement remained constant to prevent the fabric from bunching into unkempt folds. The sweeping sleeves easily creased when lying down, requiring me to rise between takes to smooth out the hem and keep lines clean and crisp.

Reflecting on the session, the garment's palette revealed entirely different textures between cold and warm lighting shifts—aloof under cool daytime beams, yet imbued with gentle warmth under lantern glow. Bringing this Kimihiro Watanuki cosplay into an ancient water set provided refreshing experiences in lighting harmony. Heartfelt thanks to the photographer's patient guidance and Qingkong Studio's exquisite location for making this photoshoot run smoothly. Skin texture was preserved without excessive smoothing during retouching to retain grounded, authentic presence.
