[Ellen Cosplay] On the Hunt: Zenless Zone Zero's Sharp Blade Strike

This time, I'm bringing you an Ellen cosplay photoset from Zenless Zone Zero. The core concept was to highlight her signature lazy yet explosive predator aura.

First, regarding the outfit details: the black-and-white maid outfit cosplay has layered textures. The black apron fabric has a subtle sheen that reflects light beautifully along her silhouette at certain angles. The white ruffled headpiece and apron trim are made of stiffer material to ensure they maintain their structured shape during wide-range movements, preventing any flat look. The paired black stockings have a moderate luster—neither too shiny to look oily, nor too dull—perfectly accentuating the leg shape and pulling smooth lines during this high-kick pose.

The core prop for this shoot was her massive chainsaw weapon. Its actual weight is quite heavy, but its red, white, and black mechanical paint job perfectly restores the original design. The grip has anti-slip textures, and the rotary dial details are fully maxed out. When posing with it, I had to carefully adjust my center of gravity. Especially when doing the wall-leaning high kick, the weapon's weight would pull me down, requiring me to tighten my core to avoid losing balance. To capture the visual contrast between danger and sweetness through the weapon and the maid outfit cosplay, we experimented with several holding angles, ultimately choosing this downward-left grip.

As for the high-kick wall-leaning pose, it was a real test of flexibility and balance. Usually, such high-intensity movements easily ruin facial expressions because you have to focus on balance and exertion at the same time. However, I tried my best to maintain a relaxed expression with a slightly downward gaze, which perfectly captured the character's signature cold, effortless demeanor. Because my leg was almost perpendicular to the wall, the stockings and skirt were under immense physical tension. After we finished this set, the apron strap actually came undone once, but luckily the photographer reacted quickly and adjusted it in time.

For the lighting, the photographer used a classic red-and-blue high-contrast color scheme. The warm red light on the right hit the wall and skin, creating an urban neon vibe that made it feel like I was enveloped in intense emotion. Meanwhile, the cool blue light from the bottom and back illuminated the tile textures on the ground, adding a cybernetic, cold-yet-realistic base to the frame. Under this interplay of light, the details of the black maid outfit cosplay were well-preserved, and a soft red rim light gilded the edges of my hair, making the overall texture highly three-dimensional.

Choosing the first photo as the cover was based on several considerations. First, the visual focus of the composition is highly concentrated; my body extends from the top-left to the bottom-left with the weapon, forming a tense fold that guides the viewer's eye back to my face. The subject is well-framed without being cropped out at the edges. Even though my leg is kicked high up against the wall, the overall form of the character is complete and full, without collage-like edits or watermarks ruining the clean frame. Second, this angle and moment perfectly capture the transition from cold aloofness to hunting mode. Since the overall color palette is dark and warm, paired with the striking contrast of black stockings and the white-and-black dress, it has incredibly high recognition on social media in this anime-style photography style.

Although the shooting process was physically demanding—especially keeping my core engaged to hold the heavy chainsaw and maintain the high-kick pose, which left my arms and waist sore after thirty minutes—seeing the story-rich frames made all the hard work worth it. From makeup and styling to props and posing, this set strived to preserve the character's core traits in their purest form, expressing the conflict between machinery and girlhood. This style is exactly the direction I've always wanted to explore in cosplay, and I hope to deliver both her outward outfit and her inner aura through the lens.
