I have been planning this Cifera Cosplay shoot for quite a long time. The most challenging part of the entire costume, and also what I wanted to present the most, are those metal armor components with a strong metallic luster.
This time, I chose a black-and-gold formal outfit look. The hood on the head, combined with the pair of fluffy faux beast ears and the long gradient cat tail behind me, needed to be secured without affecting the balance of the frame. To restore the character's light yet sharp lines, special attention was paid to the slim fit of the black body piece during tailoring, while white cuffs were added to brighten local areas.
Each piece of the metal armor was given textured layering and a lacquer finish to ensure sharp reflections under the studio lights. The golden patterns on the pauldrons and the intricate lines on the boots were meticulously crafted, knowing that the intense lights of the studio would magnify these details. When putting it on, I could clearly feel the weight brought by the armor. However, rather than the weight, I cared more about how to make the character's temperament appear light under such heavy armoring.
This shoot was completed in a very vintage European-style studio. The dark green tufted sofa in the background and the intricately patterned carpet on the floor were actually chosen intentionally. Because the character's outfit itself has a strong black-and-gold contrast, this dark-toned vintage environment beautifully accentuates the brightness of the costume, making the color layers richer. During the shoot, I tried an extended pose with raised arms, wanting to use this movement to complement the contour of the hood. To ensure that the golden plates on the helmet and the decorations on the hood didn't block my facial features, my assistant helped me adjust the angle several times, constantly checking the viewfinder to confirm the direction of the light.
The makeup highlighted my blue eyes, which, paired with the light blonde hair, concentrated the visual focus on the eyes. For cosplay, a great set of photos requires not only an exquisite costume, but on-site light and shadow coordination as well as posture details are equally important. Being able to capture the character's traits from styling to final photos truly took a lot of thought. Although metallic textures are hard to shoot, they show a very robust presence under good studio lighting. Recreating the entire look and the elf-like cat tail perfectly made the shooting process challenging but very interesting, and the final black-white-gold color palette forms a highly stable visual focus in the frame.
