"Heaven pities all living beings, all evils shall be purged." This line is highly fitting to summarize the final Wuthering Waves Jinhsi cosplay commission photos shot at the Zhuzhou Xiangju ACG offline convention. The matrix overhead lights in the exhibition hall provided a natural and even light source, and combined with photographer WiFi's control over the lighting, I am very satisfied with the transparency of this photo set. Therefore, I specially sorted them out to talk about the experience of Anime-style makeup and styling and shooting this time.
Let's start with the makeup and hair. The soul of the character this time lies in the long, straight silver-white to grayish-blue gradient hair. To restore the smoothness of the hair strands, I chose a relatively lightweight wig material. There are straight bangs in the front, and the low twin-tails on both sides are tied with plump bright blue ribbons. This combination makes the facial contours look softer yet more three-dimensional. For the eye makeup, I abandoned heavy colors, choosing a cool gray-toned base layered with fine silver glitter, paired with light blue contact lenses, with a focus on enhancing the elongated effect of the outer corners of the eyes. At the same time, paired with two or three points of highlight sequins under the eyes, it brings out that clear yet detached gaze unique to the character when looking directly at the camera. The base makeup was intentionally done with a full-face matte, anti-shine treatment so that it wouldn't look greasy under the complex light sources of the exhibition hall.
The texture of the costume was also of paramount importance for this shoot. For the upper body, I chose a pure white, off-the-shoulder shirt with ruffled edges. The stand-up collar ruffle design at the neckline, along with a dark bowtie collar pin inlaid with a metallic decorative button, enhanced the overall refinement. The wide lantern sleeves not only made it convenient to move but also increased the visual tension of the frame through the accumulation of fabric folds when posing. The lower skirt is a light blue pleated short skirt, and the dark binding at the bottom of the hem is crucial, as it beautifully broke up the potential monotony of the white-top and blue-bottom combination. The small blue ribbons adorned on the cuffs and waist sides form a harmonious echo with the bows on the wig, making the blue-and-white outfit visually more unified.
In terms of choosing standing positions at the shooting site, we specially picked a relatively open area in the exhibition hall, using the flat dark gray floor and the towering ceiling with grid-like fixtures as the background. This grand spatial sense of depth is perfect for expressing the character's cool and detached temperament. When standing and posing, I focused primarily on trying a posture with hands folded in front of the body, as well as a frozen frame with one hand raised and extending outward, passing through fine-tuning of the relaxation of hand joints to convey a static aesthetic that is both detached and slightly gentle. The sitting posture section utilized a black metal folding stool at the edge of the venue; with the body leaning slightly backward and legs extending forward, paired with low-angle photography, it could naturally elongate the proportions of the lower body, giving the frame more of a narrative feel.
Because the convention venue was crowded, and white clothing is extremely prone to staining, I specially sprayed waterproof and stain-resistant protective spray on several high-friction areas of the clothes before going out. At the same time, I used multiple black invisible bobby pins to firmly secure the wig at the junction of the top of the head and the twin-tails, avoiding the embarrassment of the wig shifting backward while posing. Jinhsi is a character whose quiet and serene aura is truly difficult to restore, so I controlled my expressions throughout the entire process, matching this setting with peaceful eyes and slightly pursed lips. During post-processing, photographer WiFi made some greenish-blue color adjustments to the raw photos while preserving the original light and shadow details of the clothing, preventing large areas of white from overexposing and making the wrinkles and textures of the clothes clearly discernible. The atmosphere at this Zhuzhou Xiangju ACG convention was fantastic, and the organizers provided a highly friendly shooting environment for creators. This set of final photos carrying the true living breath of the exhibition hall can be counted as a tentative restoration of Jinhsi's character image. I hope my experience sharing on costume care, wig fixation, and expression management can bring some practical reference to friends planning to produce similar works.
