Diving straight into the theme of this shoot. The overarching color palette was set as high-key pure white complemented by navy blue, light purple, and gold; from conceptualization to execution, pre-production took a massive amount of effort. The shoot took place in a temple-style practical studio set—vast expanses of white Roman pillars, carved arches, cascading sheer drapes, and a deep black backdrop perfectly aligned with the divine and sacred visual tone we envisioned for this Honkai: Star Rail cosplay.
I portrayed the older brother for this Sunday Cosplay, wearing a structured long robe with distinct blue-and-white color blocking, black-and-white intersecting geometric straps, and an eye-catching golden thorned star-halo headpiece. To give the garments a crisp, upright silhouette, relatively stiff fabric with structural internal lining was used. Holding a navy hardcover tome against black leather gloves also reinforced the overall ceremonial solemnity. Looking closely, you can see numerous metallic star brooches and rhinestone embellishments across the costume; under the overhead lighting, they delivered exceptional sparkle, making the tedious fitting process completely worthwhile on camera.
My partner's Robin cosplay styling featured a blue-to-purple gradient short dress with lightweight feather accents and an off-the-shoulder, courtly lantern sleeve cut. She wore a delicate golden circular halo on her head, which looked more nimble and ethereal compared to my multi-pointed star halo. To match the sweetness and agility of this costume, her makeup accentuated the eye contours, which, paired with light-colored contacts, gave her gaze both a cool poise and soft gentleness. The leg presentation and high heels were also key highlights of the look—the oversized deep-blue bow with ruffles and blue ankle straps with star charms visually elongated proportions, balancing the starkness of the white palette perfectly.
Throughout the shoot, we deliberately designed interactive compositions for this Duo cosplay. For instance, in the shots seated around the white European sofa, although I stood behind her, my angle and hand placement formed a protective posture from above, echoing our character lore as siblings and our shared bond. Meanwhile, the individual close-ups focused more on prop interactions—such as using a white harp or foreground blue-and-white flowers to create the illusion of resting within an otherworldly sanctuary garden.
Because white was the primary tone of the setting, lighting demands were exceptionally stringent. We used high-key studio lighting to ensure the subjects and fabric textures retained ample highlight detail, while keeping shadows soft to preserve a clean, luminous image quality without heavy dullness. In post-processing, beyond refining facial details and translucent skin texture, we polished costume edges and wig layering to unify the whole set under this fairytale-like temple theme for Honkai: Star Rail cosplay. Throughout the shoot, my partner and I fine-tuned our character nuances and sibling dynamic, hoping static frames would convey narrative depth unique to the Honkai: Star Rail universe. Every press of the shutter was a process of reshaping and breathing life into these characters and garments.
