The visual focal point of this look centers on the pixel FX and glowing mechanical arms. To recreate a cyber sci-fi feel, I installed LED strips on the prop section and applied reflective treatment, allowing cool-toned light sources to project naturally onto the wig and goggles. The photographer used a closer focal length to capture details of the mechanical arms while preserving overall composition to avoid a cluttered frame.
On the day of the shoot, complex lighting at the convention venue interfered somewhat with imaging, so post-processing adopted a gradient palette of purple, cyan, and blue to cover stray colors. Particularly when rendering the massive pair of pixel wings and illuminated foot traces, I deliberately incorporated pixel fragmentation and digital glitch visual effects, giving the images a stronger sense of digital-world distortion. The pixel block tattoos on my thighs were also added to introduce a playful flair in close-up shots, complementing the techwear short jacket, belt, and black thigh-high boots.
The most challenging aspects of this styling were the heavy goggles and mechanical gloves. Shooting required constant angle adjustments to avoid reflections or catch better light and shadow positions. Although the silver wig was visually striking, moving around the venue caused it to tangle easily, requiring frequent smoothing by hand during breaks. To showcase the character's gamer trait, I tried iconic poses such as aiming with a weapon and looking up from a high angle while adjusting glasses, conveying a casual yet bold demeanor.
During post-processing, pixel font UI like \"TRY AGAIN\" reminiscent of game over screens was sprinkled across the images, combined with lit-up RGB lighting effects on the gloves to build a scene narrative. This approach elevates the photos beyond simple Convention photos into screenshots pulled directly from a console game. To balance the ratio between reality and virtuality, the costume wasn't over-the-top, retaining crisp techwear lines while breaking real-world constraints via post-processed pixelated FX.
Shooting took considerable time, as we had to manage both prop functionality and natural pose fluency. Fortunately, the photographer had a clear lighting strategy, using cyan-purple light to cast a metallic sheen over fabric folds and wig strands. Overall, the completion of this photo set relied heavily on early costume detail verification and post-processing techniques that merged pixel and glitch elements into real imagery, creating an intriguing crossover feel between reality and digital space. More than just displaying costume details, I hope to convey this digital gaming vibe through this work.
