Today is the final day of the holiday break; glancing at the calendar, I'll be returning to my working-life routine tomorrow. Fortunately, thanks to adjusted workdays, I only have to work three days this week, which instantly lightened my mood. Catching the very tail end of the holiday, I sorted through and posted this Lolita fashion photoshoot taken during the Mid-Autumn Festival, bringing this long vacation to a graceful close.
The inspiration for this series stems entirely from the Mid-Autumn Festival. To embrace the festive ambiance, I chose a magnificent, opulent dress anchored in a golden-yellow palette. The garment is brimming with rich details: tiered lace trimmings and delicate ruffles gained exquisite texture under the warm yellow illumination. Large satin ribbon bows accent the chest and waist, while the sleeves feature dramatic, flared sheer chiffon bell cuffs that drape beautifully, adorned with fine pearl chains. The headdress is one of my favorite elements, styled with upright Bunny ears, paired with fluffy white plush pom-poms and golden lace headbands. To enhance the ethereal fairy aesthetic, the headpiece also incorporates flowing sheer tulle and tassels that sway gently with every step.
For the lower body, I selected sheer white pantyhose White stockings patterned with cross and bow jacquard motifs, paired with white platform Mary Jane shoes. This combination is classic within Lolita fashion, not only elongating leg lines but also balancing the visual weight of the opulent upper ensemble. Holding an orange paper lantern on a long red handle as a prop not only resonated with the outfit's tones, but also made my posing gestures feel more natural and varied.
The set design was also arranged with great thought. In the background, a massive luminous full moon was erected, flanked by orange and yellow Chinese paper lanterns adorned with calligraphy and botanical patterns. Vibrant yellow floral arrangements clustered around, creating the feeling that the autumn osmanthus and bright moon had been transported indoors. The floor was distinctive, crafted with a black, reflective, mirror-like wet surface. During shooting, the water surface mirrored the light and shadows of both subject and lanterns, lending considerable depth and dimension. The little bunny props were adorable as well—one nestled in a woven bamboo basket and another on the floor, infusing the scene with lifelike vitality.
As for the shooting process, it was honestly a bit physically demanding. Because this dress has so many voluminous layers, putting it on took considerable time, particularly when arranging the skirt folds and smoothing the sleeves. Furthermore, to capture that shimmering ripple effect on the water's reflection, the photographer and I explored several camera angles. Posing on the wooden platform by the pool required immense caution—especially when balancing on one leg or holding up the skirt hem for spins, keeping solid footing was vital. To freeze the dynamic instant of the billowy sleeves catching flight, we repeated the motion several times; thankfully, the final frames were immensely satisfying.
Every time I shoot Lolita, it feels like an authentic expression and appreciation of aesthetic beauty. From selecting garments to matching makeup, hair, props, and environments, every step requires heartfelt dedication. Blending traditional Mid-Autumn Festival motifs with the opulent charm of Lolita fashion—even though it isn't a specific character cosplay—walking across the set in this attire provided a truly immersive fairy-tale feeling.
Tonight I plan to sleep early to reset my biological clock, as an early morning awaits tomorrow. Though the holiday has wrapped up, the photos preserve wonderful memories, and facing just three workdays before the weekend makes it far easier to bear. Wishing everyone a smooth and effortless next three working days.
