From fabric pattern-making to collar stitching, this Judy Cop uniform indeed took a lot of my thoughts and preparation. When I first started preparing, what troubled me the most was the mini tactical pouch on the waist. To make it fit the tailoring of this pinafore dress, I switched out several types of interfacing fabric with different stiffness to ensure its silhouette, and the final effect not only accommodates small props but also avoids looking bulky.
The light blue short-sleeved puff-sleeve shirt paired with the dark blue pleated pinafore dress visually elongates the body proportions nicely. After tying that green tie at the neckline, the global uniform feel instantly comes out. To give the police department elements' metal badges on the body a more textured look, I also specially readjusted their positions on the chest fabric, feeling that this arrangement looks more natural rather than just randomly stuck on.
For the rabbit ears on my head, I hid thick structural wires inside so that whether walking or doing actions during the outdoor shoot, the ears can maintain an upright state. Paired with the dark navy blue round-top bowler hat, it anchors the characteristic of the "Bunny Cop." The large carrot plush toy held in my arms is also a crowning touch; round and plump, holding it for photos not only increases the visual color contrast of the frame but also gives me an anchoring point when posing, preventing me from feeling clumsy with my hands.
This outdoor shoot looked for a campus-style walkway with great greenery, and the weather was highly cooperative, offering abundant and soft natural light. Because this blue uniform has an excellent reflection effect under sunlight, the captured skin tone appears exceptionally clean and translucent. I am usually relatively quiet in personality, so to restore the character's playful and agile feeling, I repeatedly practiced several poses in front of the mirror before the shoot started.
In the photos, I made a V-sign gesture, a salute action, and a daily standing pose holding the carrot; the photographer was extremely precise with the candid captures, catching that lively energy I wanted with every shutter click. Actually, we encountered quite a few challenges during the shooting process, such as the occasional wind blowing up the skirt hem. To stabilize the frame, I frequently needed to press down on the skirt with my other hand or rely on the carrot prop in hand to adjust my body's center of gravity, striving to maintain the spirit of this moment.
For the fabric of this uniform, I ultimately settled on a material with slight stiffness, allowing the pleats of the skirt hem to spread out naturally just like in the photos, and the brown woven lace decoration at the bottom also enriches the layers of the entire dress. Every time an outdoor shoot is completed, careful maintenance is inevitable after returning home, such as using a garment steamer to iron the flattened pleats back into sharp ridges, and using a small comb to comb the fluffy rabbit ears to maintain their volume. Although maintenance is a bit tedious, being able to present a beloved character in a materialized way and take satisfying photos brings an irreplaceable sense of fulfillment.
This cosplay photoshoot records a "daily patrol" on the lawn as Judy Cop; there are no tense and exciting chase scenes like in the movie, but holding a carrot, catching the breeze, and enjoying this relaxed moment under the dappled tree shadows is an exceptionally unique outdoor shoot experience. Everyone who likes cosplay probably understands that putting on a character's clothes is not just a simple outfit change, but an immersive creation and self-expression.
