【Sankarea: Undying Love Cosplay】Classic Purple & White Uniform and Red Eyes Recreation - Image 1

This indoor studio set for Sankarea: Undying Love cosplay is one of my recent favorite projects. From initial concept to final images, most effort was dedicated to restoring costume details and adjusting makeup. The iconic purple-and-white sailor uniform from the original character design is instantly recognizable; during prep, I paid close attention to the width and color saturation of the deep purple trimming on the top collar, striving to eliminate any off-tone jarringness. The necktie was chosen in a highly saturated bright blue, forming a classic cool-warm contrast against the reddish-purple skirt and drawing visual focus to the neckline.

As for makeup and styling, Red eyes are undoubtedly the soul of this character. To ensure her gaze appeared clear and luminous, I wore custom-colored contacts and kept eye makeup color intensity light, letting the red of the pupils serve as the absolute visual centerpiece while using eyeliner to elongate eye shape for a sharper touch. The wig featured long straight black hair with a smooth drape, layered and trimmed to prevent heavy bangs from obscuring the brow and eyes; the airy look across the forehead was fine-tuned repeatedly. The aqua-blue hairpin by the left ear was another key detail anchors the character—though subtle on camera, I adjusted its position in the mirror multiple times to hit the precise spot.

For the photography approach, I passed on complex real-world sets, specifically selecting a seamless infinity white studio backdrop. The lighting design utilized even, frontal high-key lighting. This seemingly simple lighting method is actually the most demanding, as it rigorously tests costume neatness and makeup cleanliness while retaining subtle gradient layers between highlights and shadows—making fabric textures and folds appear authentic and vivid rather than flattening into a rigid plane under bright light.

In terms of posing, I didn't push for exaggerated anime-like gestures, opting instead for a quieter, more poised state. Standing slightly sideways, gently pinching the collar, or glancing down toward the lens in a relaxed, natural manner conveyed the character's aura far better. The large black shoulder bag served as a styling accent, breaking up the visual monotony of the white backdrop while infusing a sense of everyday realism and student charm into this Uniform cosplay.

For the outfit composition, pairing a Black stockings cosplay over-the-knee look with the reddish-purple pleated miniskirt preserved the youthful essence of the uniform while visually lengthening lower-body proportions in the framing. Throughout the shoot, the photographer and I constantly adjusted angles to find the exact perspective that best highlighted the uniform's silhouette.

Compiling this photoset felt like re-experiencing the character's design from Sankarea: Undying Love. Personally, I feel the charm of cosplay lies not necessarily in 100% pixel-perfect cloning, but in capturing a character's most distinctive traits while weaving in personal aesthetic interpretation. Although preparation time for this shoot was tight, the final outcome achieved my intended level of fidelity. For post-processing, I kept edits limited to basic skin retouching, deliberately avoiding heavy filters or color shifts to preserve the clean texture and natural colors, hoping to convey her serene yet balanced demeanor.
