This outdoor location was set along a wooden boardwalk bordering a lotus pond. To honor Suwako's quirky, nature-infused charm from Touhou Project, I invested careful preparation into wardrobe and prop choices.
Breaking down the ensemble: the core piece is a violet pinafore dress worn over a crisp white long-sleeve blouse, featuring ruffled sheer gauze cuffs that add airy flutter. The lower half pairs matte White stockings with dark brown platform loafers. These shoes provided a flattering height lift while remaining stable along the wooden boardwalk planks, making dynamic poses effortless. The blonde wig was styled into playful low twin pigtails bound with crimson cords. The straw hat was custom-modified with oversized cartoon frog eyes at the crown, anchoring Suwako's signature amphibian motif. The sprawling Lotus leaf held overhead was sourced on location; its long stalk made it an organic interactive prop that shielded the harsh sun while layering rich visual depth.
Shooting conditions brought intense, blazing sunlight. Harsh direct rays easily cast unflattering hard facial shadows, so the photographer and I sought out dappled tree shade and used the Lotus leaf as a translucent diffuser, crafting a soft, summery haze across the frame.
For posing, to capture her petite, sprightly presence, I kept my center of gravity nimble—angling my torso sideways, hoisting the Lotus leaf high, and maintaining lively eye contact with the lens. Under bright sunlight, White stockings can easily blow out and lose detail, so post-processing retained delicate fabric texture and light-to-shadow falloff for natural realism. Dense reed beds flanking the boardwalk and floating lotus pads in the distance framed the shot with gorgeous depth of field. Despite enduring heavy layers in the heat, the lush verdant Summer Film result made every drop of effort worthwhile.
