[Zero Two cosplay] DARLING in the FRANXX: Summer Poolside Portrait

For this session, we chose an outdoor swimming pool backed by urban high-rises—the contrast between modern cityscape and the cool waters added a leisurely summer ease to the frame. Prepping for this Zero Two swimsuit cosplay, I readied long straight pink locks and her iconic red horn accessories. The white one-piece swimsuit had a form-fitting cut that accentuated body lines beautifully, which also meant engaging my core continuously to maintain peak posture. The shoot actually fell on an overcast day; dense cloud cover diffused the natural daylight softly without harsh direct glare, saving us the trouble of dealing with heavy facial shadows. To heighten the refreshing summer vibe, the photographer used a reflector panel on the left to fill facial light while preserving the vivid blue tones of the water. For hair and makeup, I emphasized the eye contours, pairing dewy, glossy eye makeup with light green contact lenses to mirror her character temperament.

Posing across the four setups presented distinct physical challenges. In the first seated pose, fine-tuning leg angles was vital to keep proportions looking natural. The second standing pose tested posture uprightness while balancing steadily along the slick poolside tiles. The third pose—balancing on one foot atop a round stepping stone—was the most exhausting; steadying myself on a curved surface while flashing a peace sign took multiple attempts, and luckily friends stood nearby ready to catch me from slipping into the pool. In the fourth shot, turning back while seated by the water's edge, the yellow duck pedal boat behind me lent a charming, playful touch. In post-processing, I cleaned up environmental clutter, shifting the color grade toward cool blue, airy tones to eliminate distracting hues while faithfully retaining authentic skin textures to preserve that anime cosplay essence. The process was demanding yet thoroughly delightful; this set gave me valuable hands-on experience mastering highlight details across pure white garments, making for a truly enjoyable summer location shoot.
