From selecting this swimwear to finally wearing it for the shoot took roughly two weeks of preparation. A white one-piece suit accented with red seam lines immediately struck me as an ideal look for summer photography. The wig was trimmed and styled beforehand; the long, straight pink locks offered beautiful natural sheen under outdoor sunlight. To craft that airy, subtly relaxed silhouette, the roots were backcombed slightly for volume, while the high ponytail at the crown was secured with styling spray. Makeup focused on the eyes, featuring azure-blue contact lenses paired with crimson eyeshadow smudged along the outer corners, which harmonized seamlessly with the signature red horns on the white headband.
The shoot was staged at an outdoor swimming pool facility. Framed by white archways and azure mosaic tiles, the entire environment looked remarkably bright and clean. Ambient lighting around 4:00 PM was optimal—the sun was no longer overhead, casting soft, diffused illumination across the skin without harsh shadows. To enrich compositional variety, I brought along several props: a white swim ring, blue-and-white rose blossoms, and a yellow rubber-duck water gun. These props infused the otherwise straightforward poolside set with lived-in vitality and playful summer charm.
Posing in and around the water proved substantially more demanding than anticipated. Sitting along the poolside ledge, for example, required careful hand placement on the wet, slippery tiles while keeping core muscles engaged to maintain fluid, natural posture. In the sequence on the green steps, the narrow footing required deliberate leg positioning; I ultimately crossed my legs, ensuring the visual focus remained on clean leg lines while adhering to standard swimwear, no inappropriate implications. For the over-the-shoulder glance ascending the stairs, we utilized the diagonal leading lines of the staircase—walking upward and turning back as the photographer captured an upward angle to elongate body proportions. The floral bouquet in hand served not only as a decorative prop but also created foreground framing that introduced visual depth.
Shooting immersed in water brought its own set of challenges. Although the pool was shallow, buoyancy combined with slippery tiles made balance elusive. To project a natural stance and effortless wading stride in the water, I had to lock my core and maintain an erect upper body, all while suppressing micro-reactions to the cool water temperature. During the transparent float ring sequence, the fully inflated ring repeatedly snagged my turns, generating plenty of laughs on set.
Post-processing prioritized the raw, translucent quality of the natural light, bypassing heavy color grading filters. The contrast between azure pool water, white swimwear, and lush green greenery resonated with the crisp energy of high summer. While this series skipped elaborate fictional backdrops in favor of a relaxed pool setting, fine-tuning lighting and physical poise allowed us to channel the signature vitality and languor of Zero Two. Despite catching a slight sun tan, seeing the finished frames made every ounce of prep and sunburn completely worthwhile.
