The convention photo set for Gwen is finally complete! Pre-production accounted for a substantial portion of our energy. Gwen's costume features intricate layers, particularly the blue-and-white dress that incorporates several tiers from the inside out; to ensure optimal fullness before the lens, the petticoat selection and tulle draping were calibrated through multiple trials. The bodice showcases crisscross lacing and black lace accents, and to match canon details, I hand-painted blue geometric tattoo patterns across my face and arms. Styling the wig presented another significant challenge—beyond the base blue cut, the sculpted spiral drills at the crown and sides required generous amounts of hairspray and wax, demanding considerable patience during fitting.
The prop weaponry took center stage during this shoot. The massive blue glowing staff was substantial in both scale and weight, requiring focused core engagement to balance when lifted with a single hand. To capture an immersive aura of circulating arcane energy, the photographer coordinated specialized narrow-spectrum lighting with smoke effects, enhanced in post-production with flowing sapphire light trails. Dutch angles and dynamic tilting broke conventional visual balance to inject kinetic energy into the frame.
We chose an abandoned architectural ruin as our location, where barren branches and weathered stone masonry set a moody, cool palette that allowed the blue-and-white highlights to pop cleanly. Given the complex background texture, aperture choices remained disciplined to preserve the tactile grit of the ruins while keeping the character sharply isolated. Live convention-style location shoots involve constant variables—unpredictable light, prop stability, and physical stamina are continual hurdles. Maintaining sharp emotional immersion across repeated takes proved exhausting, yet seeing the finished images made every effort worthwhile. Merging gothic fairytale aesthetics with atmospheric ruins brought this narrative visual alive, and I hope this piece resonates with fans of League of Legends, Teamfight Tactics, and the 2D Vision Project.
