In the early morning of October 4, 2026, the night wind in Yangshuo carried the damp chill of the Li River, blowing against my face with noticeable coldness. At this moment, I was sitting by the edge of a bamboo raft set, wearing white fox ears on my head, with that giant fluffy long tail behind me almost covering the wooden planks beside me. To recreate the mysterious aura of Hsin cosplay in Wuthering Waves, a lot of details were added to this costume. A light blue translucent outer robe is layered over a black and red inner garment, and the golden cross-stars and metal chains adorning the chest occasionally flashed cold glints under the faint lights. The facial makeup featured reddish eyeshadow and light-colored contact lenses, paired with silver-white curly hair, aiming to present a presence suspended between reality and illusion before the lens.
The hardest parts of this shoot were lighting control and prop arrangement. Outdoors in the early morning, there was virtually no natural light. The photographer used warm yellow lights from the side-rear to outline the edges of my hair and tail, allowing the figure to pop out from the deep blue night sky. In earlier test shots, the light was either too flat or too harsh; finally, moving the light behind near the bamboo basket and using the box's obstruction to create a soft-light effect yielded the warm-cool visual contrast seen in this current photo set. The prop black bird perched on the bamboo basket also added plenty of storytelling to the frame; to make it stand naturally, we secured it underneath with thin wire, taking care of camera angles during shooting to avoid revealing the setup.
Posing actually tested core strength considerably. Sitting in a spot without a backrest, I had to keep my posture upright while simultaneously controlling the direction of that massive fluffy tail. The languid and casual hand lifts or leg bends in the photos were polished little by little as the photographer continually adjusted focal lengths. For instance, in the third panoramic shot, to ensure both the leg lines and the tail fully entered the frame, I tried leaning back and turning slightly to the side, letting the light fall precisely on my legs and the garment's metal accessories. To prevent the frame from feeling cluttered, we didn't add too many props, preserving the breathing room of the image.
Shooting from the previous evening into the early morning, the temperature dropped drastically, requiring a heavy coat to be draped over me as soon as a cut was called. Reviewing the photos frame by frame on the camera screen made the early morning chill and drowsiness largely vanish. The Yangshuo night scene inherently carries a quiet and mesmerizing quality, perfectly matching the elusive nature of Hsin cosplay. After repeatedly confirming exposure and white balance with the team, we achieved this Night portrait work interwoven with warm and cool tones and brimming with fantasy colors for the 2D Vision Project. Every curve of the tail's fur and every degree to which the hair strands were illuminated were fine-tuned on-site. I hope everyone feels the dedication behind this shoot, and I hope this Yangshuo travel photography night attempt accumulates more outdoor location experience for the future.
