[37 Cosplay] Reverse: 1999 Jeju Island Travel Photography: The Blue-Haired Girl Amidst Emerald Waves

The ambient light over Jeju Island's crystal-clear "glass sea" is most comfortable around three o'clock in the afternoon. Slipping into 37's iconic blue hair and exotic off-the-shoulder garments this time, as the seawater washed over my ankles, the fabric of the skirt hemline and tailcoat dipped directly into the water, transforming the originally airy drape into a wet, clinging texture. The sand in the shallow water area is incredibly fine, leaving zero sharp or uncomfortable sensations when stepping on it, and one can even faintly see the blue light patterns refracting off the seabed. To maintain a sense of organic breathing in the frames, I had to carefully control changes in my body's center of gravity; though the waves weren't large, their continuous impact could easily destabilize a standing posture. The print where I reach out my hand perfectly captured a precise split second of surging water ripples, bringing the sunlight on my fingertips and the reflections on the water surface onto the exact same focal plane. Wigs easily tangle in this kind of sea breeze environment; for this reason, I intentionally sprayed extra diluted hair oil onto the ends before setting off, so even after getting partially soaked by seawater, a quick rinse with fresh water instantly restored its smooth silkiness. For the makeup section, I deepened the color transitions of the upper and lower eyelashes and the eyeshadow to prevent reflective distortion under intense light. The metallic gold portions on the outfit didn't fade at all despite being submerged in seawater, which made me quite glad about our previous material selection. The UV rays on Jeju Island are exceptionally strong, but fortunately, the white clouds acted as a natural softbox screen, keeping the lighting contrast ratio remarkably well-controlled. In the print where I am kneeling in the water, to simulate the character's unique sense of serenity, I deliberately held my breath to avoid creating excessive bubble disturbances on the water surface. Once the skirt hem spread out underwater, it forged a dispersal effect similar to planktonic organisms, beautifully matching the character's ethereal and aloof temperament. This photoshoot lasted for about two hours, showcasing several different facets of the character—ranging from an inviting hand gesture in a standing pose to a lowered head in a kneeling posture. Reviewing the raw files, the deep azure sky and light blue hair formed a beautiful analogous color harmony, while the white and gold garments and accessories served as the visual focal points. Although walking along the seabed came with some resistance and I worried about the briny seawater damaging the wig, the final prints completely exceeded expectations. This styling didn't look out of place at all in a natural coastal environment; instead, it carries a unique narrative depth of completely dissolving into the natural body of water.
