Shooting this set of photos under Chongqing's 40-degree heat, honestly, I had given myself plenty of mental preparation beforehand. Braving the scorching sun to put on this modified Chinese outfit dominated by a white and blue color scheme, along with plush animal-ear hair accessories and complex ruffles, the perceived temperature far exceeded the actual forecast. This outfit is indeed beautiful, but with multiple layers of tulle and fabric, standing outdoors for less than five minutes made me feel like a dim sum in a steamer. However, since I chose a location shoot, facing the architectural background and the lighting, my inner persistence forced me to bring out my absolute best state.
The location chosen for this shoot is a traditional multi-eaved pavilion. The classic Chinese elements of green tiles and red pillars are unexpectedly a perfect match for this "Chinese girl" style outfit, serving essentially as a natural photo studio. During the shoot, we had to do our best to avoid the most brutal midday sun and pick times with some tree shadows; the interplay of light and shadow adds a lot of layering to the frames. Because I kept sweating, the makeup stylist had to do touch-ups for me every few minutes, and the parts where the false eyelashes were glued almost peeled off due to the sweat. I am truly grateful to the on-site team for their comprehensive logistical support.
In terms of movement design, we weren't confined to static posing this time. With the sword as the core prop, we combined sitting postures, glances back, and two low-angle dynamic movements that heavily demanded core strength. In Figures 5 and 6 that you see, the moment I squatted down, my entire center of gravity had to stay absolutely stable. The ground was baking hot, and when the skin on my legs got close to the surface, it felt hot enough to boil an egg. Although it was exhausting, photos taken with such high-tension poses definitely possess more vitality. The direction the sword blade points can pull a visual leading line, which, combined with the blurred background, makes the highlighted subject exceptionally clear.
We changed locations across several stone railings and steps throughout the shoot. Honestly, by the second half, I was on the verge of dehydration, completely relying on soda water and Huoxiang Zhengqi liquid to keep going. Undertaking Chongqing location photography is truly a dual test of physical stamina and willpower. Although I was frantically complaining out loud that "I'm a dog," seeing the final results made me feel that all the sweat shed under the blazing sun was completely worth it. This set of photos is not only a visual record but also a breakthrough of my own tolerance limits. Producing a successful cosplay photoshoot is never easy, and Chongqing's summer is even harder. I hope this work, which blends Chinese style photography and Anime-style photography aesthetics, allows everyone to feel a sense of coolness and a different kind of beauty.
