The purple twilight sky forms a contrast with this white uniform on the grass. When shooting this set of photos, we indeed spent a lot of thought on location scouting. Scouting the location in advance, we found this small slope covered with green grass. Combined with the photographer's candid captures, we achieved this moment of looking up into the distance.
As Evanescia, the costume design has many exquisite details: the embroidery on the white top, the black badge on the bow tie, the edges of the gloves, the red and black waistband with tassels, and the dark blue pleated skirt. Although the texture at the seams cannot be seen in the photos, the golden threads on the shoulders have a beautiful luster under the light. To look clean and sharp, the hair was styled relatively flat, and the bunny ears on top of my head were fixed by hand. I deliberately adjusted the angle of the bunny ears, paired with the hair strands gently drifting in the wind, to create a sense of agility.
This outdoor photography session was chosen in the evening, and the photographer specially took advantage of that touch of purple glow when the sky was about to turn dark. The light was not harsh, using soft diffuse reflection to shoot the character's face, which maximizes the preservation of the color saturation of the costume. It was quite quiet around at that time, with only the sound of the wind and the shutter. I straightened my back slightly and relaxed my shoulders, letting the visual focus fall on my collarbones and tilted jawline. The red, white, black, and blue color scheme is actually quite sensitive to light and shadow under the lens, but fortunately, the ambient light was very forgiving, making the tone of the finished photos look relatively unified without abrupt highlights.
Speaking of the character Evanescia, I contemplated what kind of posture and expression she would have under this worldview. She is not a fierce predator, but rather an existence with a touch of aloofness and stubbornness. Therefore, I tried my best to avoid overly forced expressions and did not strike exaggerated poses. As for the hand posture, one hand is gently raised near the collarbone, while the other hangs naturally by the skirt hem. This slightly defensive yet naturally relaxed posture counts as my performance attempt to interpret the character's personality. To pursue that "sense of naturalness," we also tried several focal lengths in parameters and composition.
Outdoor photography inevitably brings minor accidents, such as thorns on the grass, and the evening breeze could blow the wig messy. Fortunately, everyone cooperated well, and no major problems occurred with the props and costumes. When looking for angles, we consciously avoided cluttered branches in the background and used a large aperture to blur the woods, making the main character subject stand out more. The bunny ears prop actually has a certain weight, and wearing the headpiece for a long time can be a bit uncomfortable. However, in the process of cooperating with the shoot, getting used to this small center of gravity instead helped my head maintain a relatively stable upward angle without looking rigid.
When I got the final photos, I truly felt a sense of being healed. This is probably the charm of cosplay—putting on specific clothing, playing a favorite character, and restoring a frame frozen in time in reality. This process is not just a photoshoot, but an immersive experience. If you want to try this style of outdoor shoot, it is recommended to find a place with grass or an open square, and shoot about an hour before sunset, which is the photographer's "golden hour." The resulting photos will be hard to find fault with.
In the detailed handling of this costume, the bow tie is not an ordinary bow but a badge style with stiffness. The white gloves have a soft texture, and the cuffs feature unique folds, making it very comfortable to wear overall. Before the shoot, the makeup artist handled the base makeup; under this twilight light, the base needs to be as clear and translucent as possible to avoid losing definition. The eye makeup deliberately used a lighter red palette, forming a same-series echo with the color of the inner bunny ears and the hair, making the overall appearance more harmonious.
