I finally got the chance to shoot this casual, or rather School swimsuit, look for Sorasaki Hina. Hina in Blue Archive always carries that stern, serious demeanor as the Head of the Disciplinary Committee, so seeing her occasionally let loose creates the ultimate gap moe. Taking advantage of the holiday, I decided to shoot a relaxed, vacation-styled cosplay set in the studio. From hair to makeup, every single detail was recreated as faithfully as possible. The long white wig styled into twin tails, along with the tiny black horns atop her head and the petite purple wings on her back, are her signature hallmarks. To match today's theme, I slipped into a navy blue School swimsuit complete with a chest name tag and a red whistle hanging around my neck, instantly evoking nostalgic school vibes.
To amplify the vacation ambiance, I prepared a blue-and-white inflatable swim ring and an inflatable water bottle prop. Carrying that giant bottle during the shoot was actually quite strenuous—you have to find the right core balance to make holding it look completely effortless. Posing seated inside the swim ring also required repeated adjustments to ensure my legs looked naturally relaxed while coordinating seamlessly with the White stockings and swim ring, preventing any clumsy or bulky look. Although the studio strobes were fairly bright, adding the purple halo effects and pixel-style stickers in post-production brought out the vibrant Anime life atmosphere immediately.
A lot of people ask me why I love cosplaying school swimsuits. It isn't just about the visual impact; it's also because this outfit cleanly brings out the character's inherent purity. In front of the camera, I immersed myself in that cheerful, buoyant mood of vacation finally arriving. Dialing in the right gaze was crucial—not too stern, yet not overly soft, capturing that tsundere charm while genuinely savoring a moment of relaxation.
Throughout the session, every composition explored distinct angles: close-ups sitting demurely cradling the swim ring, as well as full-body shots standing with the prop on my shoulder. Three-quarter side angles best highlighted the leg and waist curves, which, combined with the pristine texture of the White stockings, gave the frames rich visual depth. After years of cosplaying, I feel more and more that every preparation is a renewed understanding of the character. It's never just about putting on a costume; it's about connecting with their inner mindset. Even in casual attire, Hina's quintessential dignity and aura had to remain intact.
Wrapping up the entire shoot took quite a bit of stamina, but seeing the finished photos brought such a tremendous sense of accomplishment. The synergy between the lighting and props completely met my expectations. Bringing these 2D characters into our tangible reality is truly the most rewarding part of every shoot. This vacation-themed shoot was a complete success, and now it's time to gear up for new plans. I look forward to presenting even more characters in their absolute best light.
