[Cirno cosplay] Summer Anime Convention Log of the Ice Fairy from Touhou Project

Putting on this light blue wig and Elf ears cosplay pieces, I could already feel summer's full malice before even stepping out the door. My decision to cosplay Cirno from Touhou Project today was largely driven by the hope that her Ice Fairy attributes might visually cool down my heat-baked brain. Unfortunately, reality is harsh; the saying "it's not naivety, it's just really hot" is no exaggeration at all. The May sun was dizzying, and combined with the shoulder-to-shoulder crowds inside the convention venue, I felt like I was going to melt.

First, let's talk about the styling. This time, I chose a light blue bob wig. Managing straight hair really tests your skill—the position of the bangs and the thickness on both sides must contour the face to look small without feeling stiff. The pair of glittery white animal ears on top actually adds a playful touch, enhancing that non-human charm. For the side Elf ears cosplay props, I switched to a soft silicone pair that matches my skin tone better; the adhesion was great, staying in place all day. For attire, the inner layer is an off-white lace ruffled base, covered with a sheer white tulle outer layer. The red chest bow and green gem brooch serve as the visual focal point of the overall white and blue scheme, breaking the monotony of broad pale colors.

The highlight of the shoot lay in combining props. The iridescent transparent cone prop in hand refracted beautiful rainbow light in natural light, pairing with a huge bunch of blue hydrangeas in front that perfectly echoed the wig's color. This refreshing blue-green-white palette achieves high color harmony surrounded by natural light and outdoor greenery, looking great on camera. Complex poses weren't needed; simply tilting my head slightly while holding the bouquet or prop and coordinating my expression effectively conveyed the character's dynamic essence. The only drawback was that the wig felt a bit stuffy in the high heat, but for the sake of the photos, that discomfort was well worth it.

Regarding the Touhou Project series, I believe many veteran bullet hell game players are familiar with it, and Cirno holds a very special position in the series. She has the Ice Fairy setting, and despite occasional subtle gaps in her intellect, this gap moe is precisely one of the reasons for her immense popularity. Instead of a traditional ice and snow setting, this shoot took place in a real summer landscape of blooming flowers and green trees, creating a humorous contrast with the scorching "so hot, so crowded" atmosphere mentioned earlier. People often say summer is suitable for shooting bold, rich colors, but I insisted on using ice blue as the keynote to soften the season's sultry heat.

The day of the Summer anime convention was indeed as expected—rolling heatwaves and surging crowds. Fans were everywhere inside and outside the venue, queued up or taking group photos despite heavy makeup and costumes. Moving indoors after finishing the outdoor shoot, I could feel sweat trickling down my neck, and my makeup nearly gave out. Luckily, using lightweight, long-lasting base makeup secured tightly with setting spray kept the skin looking smooth and clean in the photos. The collaboration with the photographer was also seamless, snapping the shutter during brief lulls in the crowd to get these Convention photos. Frankly, without personally cosplaying in full gear in midsummer, it's hard to imagine the physical torment caused by the heat, but the happiness gained was equally real.

Overall, from wig styling and accessories to outfit restoration, everything was a tribute to Cirno from Touhou Project. Although this Ice Fairy couldn't defeat real-life temperatures approaching forty degrees today, I did my best to maintain the outfit's completeness and the visual sense of cool. If any friends are also doing outdoor shoots in summer, remember to take proper heatstroke prevention measures and avoid peak midday heat. The process of cosplay itself is an experience of passionately pushing through challenges, and this touch of blue coolness amidst the blazing heat serves as my little visual keepsake for this scorching summer.
