[Emilia cosplay] Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World-: Anime Expo 2026 Itasha photo & Convention Log

My schedule at Anime Expo 2026 has wrapped up! Today's physical stamina drain was noticeably greater than anticipated, but getting to take an Itasha photo smoothly and attending the gathering made the overall experience fantastic.

This time, I presented an Emilia cosplay. This costume design from Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World- is timelessly classic, yet actually walking through a massive convention hall while wearing it proved to be quite a challenge. To authentically recreate the elf ears, I used plenty of special effects prosthetic adhesive during prep; by the end of the day, the edges of my ears were slightly flushed red. For the wig, I styled long white hair with loose curls pre-set using a curling iron, adding lift at the crown to prevent it from looking flat under convention downlighting. The purple lace and golden trim on the garment are remarkably exquisite. The neckline and waistline cuts are quite unforgiving on silhouette, so I had been keeping a close watch on diet and workouts recently. The styling with White stockings and over-the-knee socks looks stunning visually, but walking around a convention all day makes snags and runs almost inevitable, making a backup pair in the bag an absolute must.

The Anime Expo 2026 venue is vast with powerful AC, but the foot traffic was massive. Waiting in line to enter during the morning took quite a while, and the indoor lighting was quite chaotic, so finding the right shooting angles was essential. The Itasha photo session went exceptionally smoothly—the vehicle's vivid blue custom wrap and anime character decals were exquisitely detailed, showing the car owner's genuine dedication to the series. The car body had strong reflective glare, so we utilized a polarizing filter (CPL) during shooting to cut down specular reflections, and I'm very satisfied with the resulting crisp texture in the shots.

In the afternoon, I joined the cosplay gathering, which was so much fun! Everyone's passion for the characters was palpable, and we exchanged lots of tips regarding prop maintenance and on-the-go makeup touch-ups. Seeing so many fellow fans present high-caliber cosplays with astonishingly faithful costume details was truly inspiring. I picked up some neat tricks for taming wig flyaways, like combining specialized wig conditioning spray with a low-heat straightening iron, which works far better than just spritzing water to restyle. Convention dust and sweat are the biggest enemies of makeup, so setting spray and pressed powder compacts must be kept on hand at all times; wigs also mess up easily in crowded spots, making a small comb and hairspray indispensable gear.

Even though my legs are totally aching, seeing the final photos and the outcome of the Itasha photo makes everything feel completely worthwhile. Time to head back, pamper my skin with a nice sheet mask, pack up my gear, and prep for the next stop on the itinerary!
