[Sangonomiya Kokomi cosplay] Gentle as Water: A Pearlescent Illusion

After wrapping up this Genshin Impact Sangonomiya Kokomi cosplay shoot, the entire session went relatively smoothly. This time, we chose an outdoor setting with red flower bushes and stone steps; because natural light color temperatures shift considerably, mastering exposure and atmosphere required meticulous care. Regarding the costume, the crisp blue-and-white gradient palette is wonderfully refreshing, featuring subtle water ripple patterns on the sleeves, a massive blue chest bow paired with gems, and a dark lace choker. To align with the character's oceanic theme, the lower half was styled with white over-the-knee White stockings and purple platform geta sandals, which beautifully elongated the leg lines.
During the shoot, the key focus was displaying the layered textures of the semi-sheer fabrics. In particular, the white ruffled sleeves and skirt hem billowed in the breeze, which, paired with the long pink-to-blue gradient wig, created a stunning dynamic effect. The photographer captured fleeting pauses in the wind while I maintained steady poses. The pairing of White stockings and geta sandals was ideal for elongating leg lines on stone steps; for the cover shot—sitting with legs extended—I kept my spine straight to highlight upper-body contours and the smooth texture of the White stockings. This pose was quite demanding on core strength, requiring short breaks every few takes.
Beyond the attire, the makeup focused on harmonizing blue eyeshadow with the pink-and-blue gradient twintail wig. The wig was quite long, so maneuvering through the crowded convention grounds required vigilance against tangling. We also shot against clusters of red flowers, where the red-and-blue contrast popped vividly, making the subject stand out sharply.
Because this took place during the Guangzhou Anime Convention, the outdoor foot traffic was heavy, demanding long waits to clear the background. We intentionally sought locations with steps and elevation changes to leverage perspective for added height, while utilizing surrounding architecture and reddish trees for smooth bokeh blur. We mostly relied on natural light, where slight overexposure added a dreamy aura. Once lighting was dialed in in-camera, post-processing mainly addressed skin tone adjustments and subtle local lighting sculpting. We also carefully angled the shots so the chunky wooden geta wouldn't look clunky on camera.
Throughout the shoot, I continuously checked the preview screen to adjust my hand gestures and gaze. In the lore, Kokomi embodies both strategic wisdom and gentle delicacy, so I kept expressions restrained, aiming for clear eyes touched with tranquil serenity. Convention cosplays can be cumbersome with props and garments, especially keeping delicate sheer tulle skirts from snagging on dry grass clippings. Yet the thorough preparation made it all worthwhile—the overall atmosphere met my expectations, striking a great harmony between dynamic flair and serene stillness.
