[Diaochan cosplay] Firefly Convention Photos of Diaochan from Honor of Kings

The Honor of Kings Diaochan Convention photos from the Firefly Anime Expo are finally here. Today, I'm mainly sharing some practical shooting and post-processing insights. The ambient lighting at convention venues can be quite tricky, with overhead lights everywhere; therefore, we used off-camera flash to overpower the ambient light and darken the background, allowing the subject's silhouette and fabric textures to pop. The most challenging components of the ensemble were the lotus hairpin and flowing water sleeves; because the materials are lightweight and prone to fluttering in breezes, finding the right angles took multiple attempts to preserve that airy yet controlled aesthetic shown in the shots. The White stockings and white high heels on the lower half were elements I loved most; to accentuate the tactile quality of the White stockings within the frame, the photographer specifically arranged a low-angle, full-body perspective, which became the current cover image. Poses drew inspiration from classical dance movements—lifting a leg and extending an arm allowed the skirt draping and sleeve cuffs to form natural dynamic folds. For post-production, I used the Pixcake anime retouching tool. It proved remarkably convenient for photos in this specific style, streamlining anime skin texture processing compared to conventional software, especially in preserving the realistic texture of White stockings and smoothing facial lighting transitions, serving as a genuinely useful Cosplay photo retouching guide. For makeup, I intensified the eye makeup and blush so the facial contours retained depth under intense flash while keeping the character's gentle demeanor intact. Overall, it was a very smooth convention shoot; the bustling crowd on-site didn't compromise the final photo quality at all. The headpiece, chest gems, and skirt embroidery were all showcased beautifully—I hope you all enjoy this styling.
