This Emilia Christmas-themed shoot was completed in a winter studio set. For costume and styling, the silver-white long hair featured straight blunt bangs with long side tendrils, paired with colored contacts and Elf ears prosthetics to stay as faithful as possible to the character design from Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World-. The red Christmas dress adopted an off-the-shoulder design, trimmed with white plush fur around the neckline and accented with green ribbons and gold bells at the chest. Paired with a white fitted corset and crisscross lacing, the outfit boasts a distinct sense of structure and rich layering. The backdrop featured a deep brown European-style genuine leather sofa, complemented by a gramophone and a snowman to create a vintage Christmas ambiance.
During the shoot, lighting was a primary consideration. Factoring in the snow-white hair and purple pupils, we specifically enhanced spotlighting on the chest area to draw visual focus and elevate the prominence of the subject. The first close-up utilized an oblique angle, using the candy cane in the foreground as a leading line while keeping the pose natural. The second photo clearly framed the spatial relationship between the background Christmas tree and the set. To keep garment lines clean and sharp, ample care was given to the hair, pearl-like accessories, and white gloves. Every time the collar was adjusted, we had to be cautious of the wig behind and the Santa hat on the left to prevent any styling mishaps.
The Elf ears required molding adjustments to seamlessly fit, not only unifying the skin tone but also aligning with camera angles. For an outfit with such a pronounced holiday vibe, facial expression control had to be grounded yet nuanced—the gaze needed to look into the lens while maintaining a confident and graceful composure. Smoothing out the green wrist ribbons and the wrinkles on the long gloves was a test of meticulous patience, requiring utmost care during dressing and undressing to avoid staining the white fabric. Because the costume is covered in laces and straps, poses had to work with gravity; crossing or extending the arms required keeping the waistline cinched to preserve maidenly charm.
Arranging set props also required careful color matching: the golden gramophone and red Christmas tree both boasted high saturation, perfectly setting off the white hair and garments while injecting a bold visual contrast into the frame. The overall shooting experience was delightful; the styling and makeup closely resonated with the character's core essence, presenting an unworldly and tranquil holiday charm. A costume with such vivid red-and-white contrast, paired with layered curls and Elf ears, truly tests the stylist's craftsmanship. Because shooting in the studio for long hours sometimes resulted in harsh lighting, we attached softboxes and adjusted distances to let the soft halo transition gently onto the face.
These shooting nuances all required thoughtful pre-production planning. Extending the limbs from a side-seated angle formed elegant curves between the hands and waistline, which, paired with the candy cane, gave the frame rich narrative depth. This set did not rely on over-embellished poses; instead, it leaned into the character's intrinsic temperament to carry this winter look, achieving the exact desired aesthetic in the final presentation. Combined with various props including the little snowman, glass, and red stockings nearby, the Anime cosplay style blended seamlessly into the realistic setting with exceptional texture. In the final selection, we chose two shots with impeccable composition and expressions: a close-up highlighting facial nuances and a medium shot establishing the environment.
