[Eyjafjalla Cosplay] Arknights Anomalous spectrum: Birthday Commemoration in Magma and Red Cords

Choosing to shoot Eyjafjalla's Anomalous spectrum look (Anomalous spectrum cosplay) from Arknights was largely motivated by taking her birthday as a special occasion to weave my continuous thoughts on the character into a concrete creative work.

To match the backdrop of molten magma and volcanic rocks, I wore this red-and-white outfit adorned with abundant ribbons and a black lace miniskirt. The garment itself was very lightweight, but the flowing streamers and red cords posed a massive challenge during shooting. To convey the sensation of being buffeted by intense heatwaves, we repeatedly adjusted wind angles and positions throughout the day, all while ensuring the red cords wouldn't snag on the rugged ground. The prop was a powerful combination of a metallic frame and red cords; it was quite heavy overall. To pull off single-handed wielding stances, I rehearsed multiple times beforehand until my arms were quite sore. After all, maintaining balance on jagged, scorching rocks while projecting a cool, resolute, and unwavering demeanor was no easy feat.

Because the setting depicted an exaggerated volcanic lava landscape, extensive pre-shoot preparation was undertaken. We scouted suitable dark rocky terrain as the main set, which my photographer friend later edited in post-production—replacing the background with bubbling molten magma and desolate withered trees, and superimposing a ram element with massive horns to heighten the visual fantasy and oppressive grandeur. This dramatic visual contrast subverting everyday normalcy was deeply compelling, allowing me to empathize even more with her wisdom and resilience in the face of peril throughout the story. For dedicated fans of this character, such symbolic imagery offers far richer narrative depth than merely showcasing pretty clothes.

The pairing of thigh-high Black stockings and the miniskirt endowed the character with a more mystical aura, while creating a much sharper visual impact against the orange-red molten backdrop. The shooting process was genuinely demanding: mud on my legs, dust coating the clothes, and constantly adjusting postures to lean against the rocks while carefully avoiding sharp stone edges that could tear the fabrics.

The synergy of pre-planning and post-processing led to the successful wrap of this Cosplay photography project. The collaborating photographer this time was Yangcun Chunba Xiyangyang, whose mastery of light and shadow was exceptionally mature, rendering backlight effects cleanly. Given the airborne dust and gravel on set, we moved with extreme caution to avoid soiling the costume. In particular, the red-and-white long streamers easily dragged on the ground and gathered soil, requiring me to lift and shake off dust repeatedly. The shoot took much longer than expected, but everyone remained patient, fine-tuning various compositions bit by bit—including leaving dedicated space for the giant ram overhead during framing. This sharp contrast between the human subject and non-ordinary elements imbued the visuals with deeper mystique. The combination of Black stockings and the miniskirt struck a harmonious balance between combat readiness and scholarly elegance. I hope everyone viewing the final photos can feel the character's calm, composed inner strength despite standing in perilous territory.

Since air conditioning was impossible on location and moving around in such intricate attire under high temperatures demanded immense stamina, physical exhaustion was inevitable. However, the inner sense of fulfillment outweighed the fatigue. Standing in that environment naturally evoked a sense of tension, naturally drawing out expressions true to the character—not forced posturing, but an authentic alertness and calm. Publishing this photoset serves not only as a birthday tribute to the character, but also as a retrospective review and record of my own Cosplay photography journey. From start to finish, the entire set was filled with uncontrollable natural variables, yet these very unpredictabilities gave the final images a unique vitality. I hope this depiction of magma and red cords captures the soul of the character.
