Shooting Arlecchino at Anime Star City this time leaned heavily into a dark, crisp, and commanding aesthetic. As The Knave of the Fatui in Genshin Impact, her oppressive authority and enigmatic demeanor have always captivated me. Once I committed to this project, I spent considerable time studying how to channel her piercing gaze and authoritative posture.

The wardrobe is packed with intricate nuances. The base is a black glossy catsuit layered beneath a long coat with wide crimson sleeves. Faithful to her design, metallic chains drape across the chest, anchored at the collar by a red-and-silver four-pointed star brooch. Down below, the black high-slit leather skirt is paired with an orange thigh strap and black over-the-knee heeled leather boots. Moving in these pieces felt quite rigid—patent leather garments severely restrict broad motions—which demanded that I command the frame primarily through my eyes and micro-body language.

Hair and makeup required extensive refinement as well. The silver-white wig with black dip-dyed tips took plenty of styling spray to shape the bangs into a natural veil over the brow. Red contact lenses and elongated crimson-toned eye makeup were essential; to avoid unflattering shine under studio strobes, the base foundation was kept matte and impeccably clean. For the lips, I selected a muted matte orange-red to ensure the complexion never lapsed into sickly paleness.

The sunlight was fantastic on the day of the shoot. Anime Star City features a stone wall with cross-shaped openwork cutouts, and photographer NightDiva commanded the lighting with exceptional skill. Direct sunlight pierced through the cross apertures, casting crisp, defined geometric shadows across the wall; we harnessed this harsh contrast between highlights and deep shadows to craft a solemn, ritualistic mood. Initially when standing, I hadn't fully settled into character and my hands-on-hips stance felt slightly stiff. NightDiva guided my breathing, having me rest my body weight onto one leg while cultivating a nonchalant, calculating gaze. After a few passes, the stance in Photo 3—hands resting on my hips with a subtle sideways glance—felt far more organic. For the seated capture, I chose to sit angled in the corner of the wall, spreading out the longcoat's train and utilizing the high slit to reveal the leg lines, which combined with the thigh harness and over-the-knee boots to dramatically elongate my visual proportions. The session unfolded seamlessly; NightDiva's compositional precision meant I didn't need to force contorted poses, only needing to let the garment's texture and dominant aura speak for themselves.

Due to the synthetic leather textiles, this Arlecchino attire was quite stifling, especially with the long-sleeved outerwear and knee-high boots—sweat was beading after just a few sets. Yet seeing the frames rendered in-camera made all the physical strain vanish. The greatest joy of cosplaying is watching an imagined concept manifest frame by frame, and collaborating with NightDiva at Anime Star City was a phenomenal experience. While packing up gear, we discussed optimizing fabric stretch for future iterations to allow broader mobility. Still, the cold, stern edge achieved in this shoot hit our artistic vision spot-on.
