[Raiden Shogun Cosplay] Being a Raiden Female Police Officer for a Day at Wuhan Comic Convention

Shooting this Raiden Shogun cosplay in a doujin female police officer outfit at Wuhan Comic Convention was even more fun than expected. The visual focus of this outfit lies in the large area of white patent leather fabric. On-site lighting hitting it makes it extremely eye-catching, but the reflections caused by patent leather were a key challenge during shooting. Without reflectors to suppress some of the highlights, post-processing could easily become overexposed. The white skirt is closely tailored, paired with a shiny black police hat and silver metal chains, making the overall lines very sleek.

What I'm most satisfied with in this look is how the wig was styled. Originally, Raiden Shogun's color scheme leans toward dark purple, but to match the crisp, cool demeanor of a female police officer, I selected a brighter blue wig with layered purple gradients at the tips. Under the convention's overhead lights, very clear color layers were visible. The wig had plenty of volume, so the flowing motion when gusts hit was captured beautifully by the camera—which is why the photographer asked me to do more head flips.

The black belt at the waist is adorned with a laser emblem, while the black thigh straps are the true essence of this fan creation design, creating visual unity alongside black sheer stockings and shiny high-heeled boots. The black fingerless gloves on the arms paired perfectly in texture when holding prop guns. The convention venue was a wide-open, large indoor hall, with other people, camera stands, and distant vehicles in the background. Such chaotic surroundings really test focal length and aperture control. Thanks to the photographer's (who is also my original uploader) compositional skills, the subject was framed cleanly in the center.

In particular, the set of poses straddling a folding ladder not only cleverly utilized convention ladder props, but also naturally displayed leg lines and stocking textures. Although the prop handgun was just a lightweight model, the sense of cocking and holding poses gave us plenty of creative space to work with—such as raising it past the head near the ear, or a perspective composition pointing the muzzle straight at the lens, both offering massive visual impact. We took dozens of shots in total, and the final selected set of convention photos pretty much captured my true state on site.

Honestly, the joy of fan creations lies in retaining the core elements of the character—like Raiden Shogun's majestic authority—while experimenting with everyday or contrasting uniform styles. Although this female police officer uniform looks very crisp, moving around still required careful body control, especially with high heels. Navigating crowded convention halls meant constantly watching my footing, but once standing still to shoot, the presence had to be turned up completely.

Pre-shoot communication is also key—coordinating desired effects with the photographer, such as whether eye contact should be sharp or soft, the height of the gun, or the curve when kneeling or sitting on cushions, all required quick calibration in a short shooting window. Convention lighting tends to be harsh, sometimes requiring studio lights to set up before getting the right look, but the overall yield rate this time was very satisfying. As doujin-focused convention photos, I hope to convey my interpretation of Raiden Shogun's composed, cool, and sharp presence. Given the chance in the future, I'd love to challenge more fan creation setups—in an atmosphere like a comic convention, that immersive experience is always the most enchanting.
