Since I heard Sensei loves blue, I came to our rendezvous carrying an exclusive shade of azure. Choosing to shoot in front of a sunlit indoor French window was aimed at maximizing the natural light to recreate that refreshing, playful vibe unique to the character. During pre-shoot preparations for this cosplay, I paid special attention to her iconic light blue hair with gradient tones and the oversized white ribbon on top of her head. To nail the combination of the bow and sunglasses, I adjusted the fit multiple times for comfort—ensuring it wouldn't easily fall off when turning my head while still standing up naturally.
For the outfit, a highly saturated blue sailor-collar top was chosen. The white piping on the collar and the large bow in the center effortlessly echo the overall blue-and-white theme. The classic academy style of the sailor collar, combined with a cropped waist-baring cut, delivers a visually light and breezy feel. The lower half features layered white shorts with delicate lace trim, made from a breathable, airy fabric that fits the lightweight, summery aesthetic. The white garter strap on the thigh is the finishing touch; we fine-tuned its tightness on-site several times to ensure it didn't pinch the skin while staying securely in place during movement. Paired with white half-wrist cuffs, the entire look gained wonderful dimension.
What surprised me most during the shoot was actually the blue blueprint prop in my hands. Many might think holding a blueprint is easy, but holding it naturally without looking like you're stiffly posing with a sign takes subtle body language. I tried holding it rolled up, holding it partially unfolded with one hand, and dangling it from the edge as seen in the third photo. Looking at the returned shots, the semi-profile angle holding the prop in Photo 1 best conveyed that slight relaxation amidst a working state. Coupled with a subtle head tilt, the overall vibe felt lively and effortless. To avoid the scene looking overly soft in typical Japanese-style bloom, the photographer utilized hard direct light balanced with soft fill light. This not only made the light blue hair look translucent but also allowed the natural window light to trace a gorgeous rim light along the hair edges, while the clean background negative space made the subject pop beautifully.
As someone who loves underwater and ocean-themed elements, shooting this light blue look was immensely fulfilling. Unlike high-key studio photography, this set leans more into an effortless, snapshot-like daily feel; though seemingly casual, every single detail was carefully dialed in. What I am most pleased with is the subtle expression when looking straight into the lens—without being overly cutesy, it captures that pure summer atmosphere between blue skies and white walls. I truly hope to share this unique charm with everyone who loves this character. Reviewing the raw photos after the shoot, the blue-and-white palette and light blue hair were remarkably skin-brightening under the indoor summer light, looking radiant and natural with barely any color grading needed.
