[Chii cosplay] Chobits Light Blue Custom swimsuit design

When shooting this Chii Custom swimsuit design in light blue from Tantuan Western Dress Club, my primary focus was blending the textures with the environment.

The blue-and-white lace and sheer tulle can easily become see-through under harsh light, requiring careful control over reflection angles. The blue bow on the chest added dimensional layering. When sitting down, the tulle tended to bunch up, needing adjustment to create natural drapes. The lace leg garter fit snugly, offering more breathability than stockings while flattering the leg shape. Therefore, I opted to go barefoot to look more natural for a summer waterside setting. The twin-tail wig was recombed to minimize frizz. The blue-and-white bow paired with red-edged hair ornaments on the head stood out prominently. Pink smudging was applied to the eye makeup to enlarge the eyes. The location was an open-air rooftop pool atop a high-rise: azure water, a white air mattress, and a harmonious backdrop of gray urban skyline and blue sky.

The shoot was scheduled during the evening blue hour, with nearby neon signage providing fill light that created a distinct warm-and-cool contrast. To give the tulle skirt dynamic movement, I reached out one hand holding the ribbon. While sitting on the air mattress, crossing my legs and pointing my toes helped elongate proportions. Since this was a Custom swimsuit design rather than following the original canon, it leaned as much as possible into a refreshing, translucent summer aesthetic. Post-processing focused primarily on tuning skin tones and tulle transparency. The pool water reflected intensely, requiring numerous camera setting adjustments, but the resulting texture turned out wonderful. We also experimented extensively with posing—the water's edge suited relaxed sitting postures, using hand gestures to guide the viewer's eye, revealing graceful lines with great visual texture.

To achieve a superior effect for this Anime-style photography, the eyeshadow was specifically chosen in pink tones; paired with light-colored contacts, the overall makeup favored an ethereal anime aesthetic. Standing poses were quite demanding on calf lines, but thanks to thorough planning beforehand, we captured flattering leg curves. Although sitting on the air mattress looked casual, it actually required keeping my core engaged, or fatigue would easily show. When the wind picked up, the tulle skirt got messy quickly—one of the trickier aspects of shooting swimsuits—so we had to seize moments when the breeze eased. Reflections from the water were intense, with some lighting effects appearing as cool tones, rendering reflectors almost unnecessary. For light blue outfits like this, color grading must handle transitions between warm and cool tones carefully to keep blues and whites pristine and translucent. Light Blue Melody was the theme of this shoot, as well as a fitting summary for the overall color palette of the set.

During the shoot, I also experimented with interacting with neon lights; shifting illumination added variety to the final images. Because it was a Custom swimsuit design, my approach to styling and outfit boundaries was relatively relaxed—retaining core character traits while incorporating personal interpretations is the true joy of custom cosplay. This light blue swimsuit was actually quite demanding on physique, so I paid close attention to diet and conditioning prior to the shoot, optimizing silhouette proportions by engaging muscles and pointing my toes. I was satisfied with most of the shots, especially the balance of composition, light, and shadow, which maintained a crisp freshness without feeling heavy. This was precisely the summer Anime-style photography swimsuit vibe I wanted to deliver.

Although it was a custom take, capturing Chii's signature sweetly bewildered demeanor remained essential, so expressions were kept subtle with a slightly daydreaming, vacant gaze. While shooting, I had to monitor the movement of the tulle skirt while adjusting my composure to ensure the most natural expression whenever the shutter clicked. Post-processing is vital for blue-toned photos like these; in particular, skin tones must not become pale and lifeless, so lowering highlights slightly gave the skin a translucent natural flush that stood out against the blue hour hues. As for modeling posture, keeping inner thighs slightly apart when standing added visual depth, while engaging the core and lifting the chest when seated brought out the beauty of the outfit's tailoring. While notes on custom design and slight OOC were acknowledged, being able to freely play within one's own character interpretation is profoundly therapeutic, without rigidly clinging to absolute canonical replication. The tulle skirt beside the pool and the light spots under the blue sky complemented this cool yet delicate, soft texture perfectly. Among all the poses, my favorite was reaching out both hands to tug at the leg garter, which enhanced visual tension. Waterside shooting experience is invaluable; lighting shifts rapidly, and capturing ideal forms under such dynamic conditions is an ongoing art I continue to practice.
