This time, I decided to shoot a relatively refreshing and dreamy Seraphine cosplay set, combining elements from a summer poolside, while attempting to do more life-like and leisure-oriented extensions based on the League of Legends character. During early preparation, we placed the heavy focus of the venue on an indoor pool area with blue mosaic tiles, because the colors here are clean, fitting perfectly with the pink-and-blue color palette of this character.
After selecting this venue, to match the casual poolside setting, I abandoned complicated and gorgeous battle costumes in my styling, choosing instead a light blue two-piece swimsuit with ruffles. This pale blue pairs with the pink long hair, appearing neither overly high-saturated nor out of place in the frame. The golden seashell beaded chain at the waist is actually a minor highlight, adding a sense of vacation and layered detail without interfering with the extension of movements. In handling the wig, I didn't deliberately comb it to be absolutely flawless, but preserved some natural volume, letting the hair strands present a slightly lazy yet exquisite arc when the wind blows. For the eye makeup, I utilized glitter elements that I've been quite fond of recently, paired with a star sticker beneath the left eye, brightening up the vitality of the entire face and making the gaze look more agile and brilliant before the lens.
During the shooting process, I mainly attempted the scheduling of three scenes. The first scene was the swing area, where the wooden swing board paired with thick hemp ropes established a tropical vacation cabin vibe. In this scene, the photographer guided me to try several postures; whether holding the rope with one hand or raising both hands high, it was all to capture the natural tension of the person in a relaxed state. The second scene was on a leisure lounge chair, holding that bright red iced drink in my hand; the red beverage formed a certain color clash with the pink hair and blue-and-white pool backdrop, making the frame feel highly translucent. When in the shallow water at the poolside, the pink transparent inflatable swim ring looked exceptionally cute; light and shadow filtered through the water surface, refracting shimmering ripples on the clothes and skin, an optical effect that is highly difficult to mimic in a studio with pure artificial lighting.
Regarding the photographic lighting arrangement, this set of works didn't use that very harsh and crisp overhead lighting, but instead adopted soft front-side lighting paired with environmental diffuse reflection, preserving the natural warmth of the skin tone as much as possible. For post-production, we skipped excessive skin smoothing or altering body silhouettes, mainly unifying the warm-and-cool relationships of the base colors, slightly brightening the white parts in the background, and lowering the contrast in highlight zones to give the overall frame more of a creamy texture. The final output possesses sufficient anime concentration without losing the authentic skin texture of a real person. The temperature on the shooting day was quite high, and the venue was actually very muggy, with oil and sweat both occurring, but managing to find such a refreshing state before the lens relied entirely on on-site touch-ups at any time and timely mindset adjustments. What this set of works ultimately wants to transmit is exactly that cozy feeling of spacing out while soaking by the cool pool water, captured through beautiful Anime-style photography.
