This time, a Lawson convenience store was specially chosen as the background to shoot this set of Amiya cosplay photos, recreating the character's sense of interaction in a real-world scene. Shuttling between the freezers and snack shelves of Lawson, compared to a pure white studio shoot, this environment full of daily life atmosphere brings the entire look closer to everyday life and adds more narrative.
The color palette of the entire outfit mainly features blue, white, and black. The upper body is a blue and white off-shoulder style, with a sailor-uniform-like patchwork at the neckline and an adjustable black lace-up detail designed at the chest, preventing the clothing from looking too thin visually. The cuffs are divided into two parts: white detached sleeves paired with blue and white striped cuffed bands. This asymmetrical sense of layering nicely refines the arm lines. The skirt hem of the lower body specially uses white fabric as a base, with blue ruffles and blue-and-white vertical stripes patched onto the edges. Walking through the wide aisles of the convenience store, the natural flare of the skirt hem makes the entire look appear very agile.
For this convenience store photoshoot, I feel the lower body matching was crucial. Outside the white over-knee socks, I intentionally layered a pair of blue and white striped slouch socks. Extending the striped elements from the cuffs of the top down to the legs gives a strong sense of cohesion to the overall costume. Paired further with a pair of rather heavy-textured black thick-soled Martin boots, this shoe-and-sock combination can refine the leg shape and add a sense of weight to the lower body without making the feet look overly clumsy. Combined with single-leg standing or leg-lifting movements, it nicely elongates the overall body proportions.
The hairstyle features long, straight brown hair. Although the hair volume is large, to maintain a sense of lightness, there wasn't much complex braiding done, and the natural drape fits the character's setting well. Combined with the brownish-bunny ears headpiece on the head, the texture of the hair edges is very fluffy. Paired with bright blue colored contacts, the camera's focus can nicely zero in on facial expressions. The white textured plastic bottle held in my hand was a specially prepared prop, which both increases the vitality of the frame and naturally blends into the convenience store scene.
Shooting cosplay in a space like a convenience store heavily tests the photographer's composition. There are many shelves and reflections all around. To avoid cluttered elements, the shoot chose to guide the gaze through camera angle adjustments. For instance, for this set of leg-lifting actions, the photographer pulled the lens back slightly for a wide-angle view, placing my entire body inside the deep aisle formed by the blue and white shelves. The cool tone of the freezer cast onto the white coat instead made the skin tone and blue eyes pop out more.
In terms of executing poses, instead of adopting a particularly hardcore standing posture, I tried to be as dynamic as possible. Leaning against the glass door of the freezer, lifting my legs alternately, or making a peace sign with my hand, paired with a relaxed expression and demeanor. This half-real, half-performance state in the convenience store makes the feeling of the "character entering the 3D world" even stronger. The black thick-soled boots supported the leg-lifting action while giving the frame a stable grounding at the bottom. The shooting process this time was very smooth, and the wearing experience of the costume didn't have much restriction. I highly recommend everyone try doing a character roleplay photoshoot in everyday scenes.
