Braving Nanning's sweltering heat of over 30 degrees, we finally wrapped up this Skadi Outdoor pool location shoot. We chose this venue specifically for its turquoise pool water, white stone accents, and lush surrounding greenery, which harmonized flawlessly with the blue-and-white color palette. The wide-brimmed sunhat and the blue-and-white gradient translucent chiffon wrap serve as the very soul of this styling; however, with noticeable outdoor breezes, the lightweight chiffon easily tangled up, requiring me to constantly flick my wrists to guide the fabric and keep it billowing gracefully before the lens.
Fine details across the outfit were exceptionally time-consuming to manage. The square rhinestones along the shoulder straps cast brilliant specular reflections in the sunlight, but flipped over easily and had to be pressed flat between takes. The blue crisscross strappings over the chest were cinched quite tightly—not only to ensure a snug fit, but also to guard against wardrobe malfunctions when bending forward or turning sideways. The polka-dot ribbon bow at the waist needed precise positioning to complement the midriff cutout tailoring and flatter bodily proportions. On the lower half, dark blue denim shorts paired with black thigh straps broke up and contoured the silhouette, while clear-strap wedge sandals visually elongated the leg lines.
The wig was a sleek, silver-white straight style. The biggest challenge during outdoor shoots is combating flyaways and harsh glare; we applied generous amounts of detangling mist and hairspray during styling to smooth the cuticles down, but regular combing throughout the session remained essential. The crimson contact lenses looked vivid in natural daylight, giving the gaze a sharper, intense focus that paired with the black leather choker to deliver striking visual contrast.
We brought along a generous assortment of props, with the red shark plushie acting as the undeniable highlight of the frame. Within a cool blue-and-white setting, a punchy bright red stuffed shark instantly injected lively energy into the atmosphere. The orange-tinted sunglasses were another fantastic accent piece—whether worn on the face or laid casually atop the lace tablecloth, they enriched chromatic layering. The fluffy white tail also needed to be spread wide when sitting down to maintain its full, dramatic presence.
To keep photos from feeling stiff, finding dynamic angles during posing is key. When seated, angling the hips while crossing the legs cleanly showcased leg definition, while leaning slightly forward to rest a palm on the chair or touch the chin infused natural vitality. In the later collaborative shots with a friend who wore a maid outfit, I remained seated with folded arms; using the tray and plushie to interact sparked instant narrative storytelling across the two-person composition. The woven flower basket and blue hydrangeas came with the venue, and placing them on the tabletop filled negative space beautifully while enhancing compositional depth.
Shooting outdoors heavily tests on-the-spot improvisation: when sunlight grew too harsh, we sought diffused soft light under eaves or tree canopies, and constantly tilted the wide brim of the hat to let ambient fill reach the face. While constantly retouching makeup, taming the wig, and hauling props was exhausting, bringing all these intricate design details to life in front of the camera made this Summer cosplay and Nanning cosplay journey an immensely rewarding creative process.
