[Bai Feng Cosplay] Japanese-Style Anime Girl in Azur Lane: The Frozen Moment of Standing with a Fan

The theme for this shoot comes from Bai Feng in Azur Lane. Since the concept revolves around incense mist, wooden lattice screens, and refined studio ambiance, I deliberately selected a studio set featuring antique wooden architecture and classical elements to complement the overall mood. Bai Feng's costume design is truly distinctive; rather than following conventional, bulky traditional robes, it incorporates a refreshing off-the-shoulder cut. This black-and-white color-blocked tailoring preserves the cool elegance of Japanese aesthetics while looking visually lighter, perfectly suited for showcasing her aloof yet uniquely charming temperament.

For the makeup, I focused on recreating the character's iconic amber-gold eyes. During the shoot, I wore high-pigment yellow-green contact lenses. To create a striking contrast against the white wig, the lower eye makeup was deepened with blended red eyeshadow, evoking a sharp, fiery intensity akin to carrier aircraft cutting through waves. For the lips, I chose a vibrant water-red shade to balance the aloof distance brought by the cool color palette, presenting a radiant complexion under the cool studio lighting. The wig also required substantial effort: silver-white hair strands easily catch unwanted glare or look messy on camera, so it was brushed thoroughly beforehand to maintain silky smoothness, and the bangs were carefully styled with pomade to match the flow in the original illustration.

Accessories served as the finishing touch for this Bai Feng cosplay ensemble. The black choker around the neck paired with silver and gold floral metal pendants is eye-catching; the choker's height had to be adjusted precisely so it wouldn't pinch the jawline when tilting or lowering my head, effectively flattering the necklines. The white headpiece resembling dragon horns or abstract bird feathers atop the head, paired with the black-and-white striped ribbon draping down the right side, lent dynamic lightness even to static poses. The dainty petal-shaped earrings also added plenty of refined detail. Because of the unique semi-off-the-shoulder cut, transparent shoulder straps were needed to secure the garment and prevent slipping; though they left faint impressions against the skin, these are essential steps to ensure visual cleanliness in the final shot.

As the lore depicts battle scenes of burning barrages engulfing enemy warships, yet the studio set leaned toward serene elegance, I sought to capture her singular commanding presence within tranquility. Avoiding exaggerated dynamic poses, I focused on expression delivery through the eyes, using a shallow depth of field to blur the plum blossom screen and calligraphy drapes behind me, softening the background amid the hazy incense mist. The photographer utilized diffused lighting to keep facial illumination even, preserving the texture of the wig and the layers of the eye makeup to the fullest extent. Although recreating game lore always brings concerns about going out of character, seeing the complete look captured in front of the lens with its rich textile textures gave the final imagery a three-dimensional spatial presence far beyond 2D game illustrations. This shoot deepened my appreciation for Bai Feng—she is far more than a name on a stat sheet, but a creative subject brimming with detail and distinctive beauty.
