[Phrolova cosplay] Wuthering Waves White Dress: Drifting Through an Empty Dream

Today I finally finished retouching the outdoor location shoot for Phrolova from Wuthering Waves. The texture of this white dress under the sunlight is truly breathtaking. When planning this cosplay, the very first element I locked down was the black-and-white geometric choker: connecting the neckline to the cutout over the chest, it evokes an aura of restrained, elegant confinement. Truth be told, Phrolova's off-the-shoulder white dress looks deceptively simple, but once worn, its dimensional layers are stunning. The pleats and ruffles along the hem unfurl naturally with the wind as I walk, while the lace edges of the flared cuffs cast a translucent, airy glow against backlighting. To match the predominantly cool tone, I paired it with short black gloves and white lace-up platform shoes, which instantly anchored my presence into a grounded, composed mood.

The location for the day took place before a terrace bordered by stone balustrades and an edifice featuring Gothic pointed archways. With outdoor shoots, the most unpredictable variables are always the light and wind, but luck was on our side. Sunlight filtered through the leaves, scattering gorgeous dappled highlights across the white skirt. When I stood by the railing holding the violin, something still felt missing; swapping in that single crimson flower and the slender rapier brought the entire scene vividly to life. Posing with the violin was undeniably the most tiring part—it demanded continuous elongation along the neck and shoulders while aligning the bow's angle so the posture looked natural rather than stiff on camera. Holding the sword and flower, I constantly fine-tuned my wrist tension, striving to channel that poignant, fated surrender of drifting through an empty dream. When the wind lifted my hair, the photographer captured several frames where the contrast between mint green hair and the white dress against the blue sky delivered intense visual impact.

Regarding the wig, the mint green bob with blunt bangs easily reflects harsh glare in direct sunlight; to cultivate that cool yet vibrant aesthetic, we spent considerable time working in hair wax and setting spray. For the rear-view shot, I deliberately braided a low ponytail fastened with a black ribbon, giving the pure white silhouette a visual anchor. The platform lace-up shoes were essential—beyond standing on outdoor pavers for hours, the thick soles helped lift the skirt hem to keep the overall proportions balanced.

Speaking of posing, the violin is a notoriously tricky prop to handle; a slight misplacement can make it look like sawing wood. I practiced extensively before the mirror—fingering the strings with the left hand, drawing the bow with the right, and resting my chin softly against the chinrest while letting my gaze follow the path of the bow to convey absorbed immersion. The rapier, by contrast, felt remarkably light; a flick of the wrist drew clean lines that created a wonderful, conflicting beauty against the white dress. The red blossom served as the defining punctuation mark, its vivid crimson clashing sharply against pure white to produce striking visual contrast.

Across the entire location shoot, what satisfied me most was the harmonious blend of light and environment. The afternoon sun cast a warm halo over the white dress, while the blue sky and pale architecture formed a cool-warm contrast that enriched the image with depth. My personal favorite is the shot holding the red flower before the stone balustrade, where the skirt caught the breeze just right and my expression felt entirely at ease. Outdoor shoots are physically demanding, but turning these imagined concepts into tangible reality brings immense fulfillment. Despite braving the chilly autumn wind for hours to capture these flying hems, seeing the final outcome made every moment worth it. This was a truly special cosplay journey for me, where every element from tailored cuts to prop selection helped me melt into the atmosphere of this lore. Hope everyone loves this creative endeavor!
