The humidity by the seaside was very high; this shoot primarily aimed to blend Phoebe's fresh ambiance with the sun and sea. As an outdoor scene, I chose a light-blue, pink, and white checkered slip dress with a multi-layered lace hem naturally brimming with fluffiness, wonderfully suited for a high-key, slightly blown-out color grading style. The matching straw hat and balloons served as fantastic props to prevent stiff hand poses.
Since this was a Phoebe self-coordinated outfit, the hair was a long wavy blonde wig; keeping it styled under the coastal breeze took serious effort and numerous bobby pins. To showcase leg lines during the shoot, I tested crouching, single-leg balancing, and three-quarter standing postures. The frontal standing pose especially required positioning the skirt hem while engaging my core to visually elongate the legs while maintaining the dress's voluminous fullness.
The first few shots crouching while clutching the hat were actually done to keep the hat from blowing away in the sea breeze; surprisingly, the resulting look was quite adorable, so we kept them. For most of the remaining time, I had to control the position of the balloons, ensuring sunlight filtered through them to create a translucent, refreshing summer feel. Midday sun by the sea was intense, so to preserve clothing details and hair texture, the photographer used a reflector to fill facial light for our Seaside photography.
Another challenge with this Phoebe self-coordinated outfit was coordinating shoes and jewelry; the blue heart necklace and pastel-blue sandals resonated neatly with the dress, maintaining chromatic balance. The shooting process was actually quite tiring because the voluminous dress and wind-prone balloons required constant readjustments of standing spots. For instance, in the shots lifting the hem, smoothing out wrinkles meant repeatedly pulling the fabric. The dynamic shot lifting one leg while raising balloons demanded strict physical balance.
Finally, relaxed profile glance-back shots felt much more natural. The contours of my thighs stood out more distinctly under the blazing sun, and together with the layered hem, made for a visual presentation I'm very satisfied with. This set not only captured the pure, innocent essence of the Wuthering Waves character lore, but also brought out the authentic flavor of Summer and the sea.
