This shoot selected The Shorekeeper's look from Wuthering Waves. The pure white and light blue color palette combined with large swathes of thin tulle builds an overall very clean and cool visual experience. When searching for a real-scene studio, I specially picked a venue with European classical elements and stained-glass windows, wanting to create a harmonious fusion between the environment's atmosphere and the costume's color tones. It is a perfect setup for a Blue and white themed set.
Let's talk about the costume details first. The light blue wig underwent a relatively layered trimming, and the semi-translucent white gauze headpiece at the top of the head brings a slight flowing quality along with movements, just perfectly echoing the character's ethereal and approachable temperament. The clothing's neckline features a small choker paired with a fine strap design, and the shoulders feature a white gauze ruffled patchwork, making the shoulder lines look very soft. There are a few loops of slender white satin ribbons on the arms as embellishments, and the blue streamers of the skirt hem are very long with excellent drape, creating great dynamic effects when moving around. The white cross-strap high-heeled sandals on the feet fit this blue and white base tone of the outfit excellently while visually extending the leg lines; the overall styling is very powerful and highly suitable for pairing with this scene carrying a touch of classical aura. This shows the true essence of a dedicated cosplay project.
Regarding the scene construction, this time it mainly relied on the hard fit-out inside the real-scene studio itself. The huge stained mosaic glass window in the background is the soul of the entire frame. The warm yellow light filtering through the glass window casts onto the blue and white clothing, forming very beautiful light spots and color blending. A few thick white Roman pillars and a white railing with carvings were placed on-site, making the background look solemn but not monotonous. The foreground was also specially laid with a geometric textured carpet alternating between deep blue and white, with deep blue spherical bouquets and white flowers arranged on the left and right sides. To increase the frame's nimbleness, an exquisite white decorative birdcage was placed on-site, and there is even a white bird model hovering in mid-air in the third picture, forming an excellent echo with the entire cool-toned environment. The combination of these elements gives the originally flat studio shoot a great sense of spatial narrative.
In terms of light processing, we focused on adjusting the color layers of the ambient light during shooting. The main light source in the real-scene studio was actually a bit toward warm yellow, but through early stage venue selection and on-site fill light, we ensured the overall cool color tone still dominated. Utilizing the warm light filtering through the glass window to contrast with the overall cool-toned clothing made the character's three-dimensional feel stronger without looking too pale. To ensure the pure sense of the white gauze headpiece and clothing, we also made many attempts at parameter settings, letting the exposure be slightly over, so the captured frame would carry a soft misty beauty.
In the photos, I displayed three different states to present the character's temperament. The first image features lying sideways on the steps beside the railing, gently resting my chin on my hand with eyes cast down, presenting an extremely relaxed and lazy static state; the blue streamers wind down along the pillar, forming a vertical visual extension with the background pillars. The second image features sitting on a short white stone block, body leaning slightly forward, hands clasped before me, coordinated with a head-lowered and eyes-closed movement; the whole person feels very settled, simultaneously displaying the sitting contour of the entire outfit. The third image features sitting on a relatively high stone pillar in the middle-back of the venue, legs naturally crossed, one hand lightly brushing the neckline, paired with the background's colorful flower window and flying bird to add some dignity and ethereal quality. These poses all try their best to fit the character's quiet traits without redundant movements interfering with the visual focus.
During the actual shooting process, what took quite a bit of effort was how to let the white gauze headpiece and long streamers display their best forms without exposing any flaws. There was no big wind on-site, so we could only rely on a handheld small fan to slightly drive the gauze and streamers; both the angle and wind speed needed to coordinate with the shutter rhythm, and we caught the most natural moment only after repeating it many times. Additionally, how to find a visual balance point between the heavy white stone material and the lightweight skirt hem was also a process requiring constant camera position adjustments. The lightness of this costume and the heaviness of the scene form an excellent contrast, rendering the character even more exquisite.
From selecting this character, preparing the costume, to ultimately coordinating the scene to complete the shoot, the entire process was actually very smooth. The clash of blue and white color palette, stained glass, white architectural elements, and spherical bouquets endowed my set of photos with a quiet yet powerful sense of atmosphere. Perhaps this is exactly the charm of cosplay—no need for overly complex movements, just relying on the set design and one's own makeup and styling is enough to briefly step into a character's world. I am relatively satisfied with my control of the blue tones and the relaxation of demeanor in this photo set, and the overall final cut effect also reached that cool, elegant, yet slightly lonely atmosphere I anticipated. I hope this serves as an excellent piece for the Wuthering Waves Creator Incentive.
