Wearing this JK uniform with over-the-knee white stockings required special attention to detail; it took a long time to adjust them to prevent elastic indentations on the thighs. Since a plush bear was brought as a prop, coordination of movements was demanding—holding it naturally while showcasing leg lines—so the second full-body shot was ultimately chosen as the main image. The angle of the blue pleated skirt and the folds of the white knit cardigan were meticulously arranged. When shooting such a specific character, one must capture that cool yet lively demeanor through poses and expressions. Using props like a stool alongside lighting gave the composition more depth. White stockings can easily reflect light and blow out highlights under bright studio lamps, so the highlights were lowered in post-production to preserve their texture. The entire shooting progressed step-by-step with meticulous light adjustments. For displaying the legs, the glossy black leather shoes served as a perfect highlight, creating a sharp color contrast with the white stockings. From initial standing positions to adjusting upper-body center of gravity, the photographer provided many practical tips. During the shoot, attention had to be paid to the position of the plush toy so that it wouldn't overwhelm the upper body's presence, requiring multiple fine-tunings of elbow height. Blue wigs can look stiff under strong light if not styled properly, so hair layers were pre-styled to look fluffier and softer. During light testing, flat light provided the best color reproduction, truly reflecting the saturation of the sailor suit bow. Pairing this outfit style with props revealed a unique side of the character's charm. The neatness of the JK uniform was also optimized by adjusting the inner wear and waistline to ensure clean visuals. Finally, several close-ups were shot to check makeup details, and the blending of the hairline and wig went quite smoothly. The overall set is dominated by cool tones, with bright accents enhancing visual focus.
Every time I cosplay such a character, preparations begin a week in advance. In addition to costumes and props, mental preparation is crucial—immersing oneself into the character and understanding her emotions. The makeup this time was specifically crafted to convey a shy yet tsundere feel; blending the pink eye shadow was a real test of technique. Atmospheric background music was played during the shoot to inspire mood. Choosing the right white stockings requires great care, as material, thickness, and opacity directly affect the final texture; after extensive searching, an opaque yet textured pair was chosen. In full-body shots, lighting angles can create shadows on the legs, but the soft studio lighting avoided any unflattering shadows, instead making leg lines appear smooth and sleek. The entire session took several hours due to constant adjustments of poses and angles to keep lighting optimal. Post-processing focused on even skin tones and unifying the blue-white theme without exaggerated warping or slimming, preserving authentic leg proportions and textures. Combining the character's personality with costume traits gives the photos genuine soul. Among the selected shots, I am most satisfied with the captured expressions and natural leg lines. Through this work, I hope to convey the unique blue-and-white sentiment of 'if true love has a color' while recording my own progress.
We changed standing positions and angles several times throughout the shoot, trying high-angle top-down shots and low-angle worm's-eye views, but eye-level shots ultimately felt the most natural. The combination of wig and cat ears required careful attention to head shape to avoid looking top-heavy. During the shoot, I learned to tilt my shoulders to express character vitality, avoiding stiff posturing. The blue sailor suit bow needed to display its optimal color under the lights, so its tightness was specifically adjusted. The comfort of wearing white stockings is also important; to match the poses, a plush-lined version was chosen to keep leg contours tight. Lighting is an effective tool for shaping body curves; rim lighting was utilized here to make the skirt hem and leg contours more three-dimensional. Looking back on this shoot, it serves as a summary and step up in my cosplay journey, offering a reference for friends who also love this character and style. Sticking with characters you love and putting in the effort brings an immense sense of accomplishment. Throughout the process, both the photographer's dedication and detailed retouching elevated the final quality. Personally, presenting it this way brings me immense joy. I will continue to work hard to present more beloved characters in even better states.
We tested the studio softboxes one by one—starting with a large one for key lighting, but finding the facial shadows too harsh, we switched to a grid softbox for better results. The material of the white teddy bear absorbs a lot of light; without proper contrast, it turns into a flat white blob, so shadow areas were slightly brightened in post to highlight the plush texture. Over-the-knee white stockings tend to crease at the knees during prolonged leg bending, so I deliberately stretched my legs during breaks to keep them smooth. This JK uniform style shoot based on a blue-and-white palette, combined with blue cat ears and detailed makeup, was a faithful rendition of the character.
