Preparing for this Azur Lane Cheshire Cosplay photoshoot in a Traditional Chinese style Qipao took quite a while. For this set, I selected a modernized Chinese girl Qipao design. The blue-and-white color palette is exceptionally fresh, incorporating delicate lace, ruffles, and wide translucent deep-blue chiffon sleeves that achieve remarkable fidelity. In styling, particular attention was paid to the details of the White stockings and leg garters, as they serve as unmistakable visual signatures of the character.
The shoot took place in an exquisite Japanese-style interior featuring tatami mats, wooden benches, round lattice windows, and bamboo foliage in the background. The primary equipment used was a SONY A7M5 paired with the FE 24-70mm F2.8 GM II lens. The resolving power of this lens is exceptional for rendering White stockings and intricate fabric textures. Furthermore, the wide F2.8 aperture skillfully caught the side light streaming through the window frames, casting gorgeous dappled light across the tatami. In terms of framing and posing, our focus was showcasing the leg lines and overall silhouette. The shot seated on the floor holding a folding fan conveys gentle grace, while the pose extending both legs forward on the wooden bench was selected as the cover after evaluating the lighting and leg elongation, granting the composition grander presence. As for the later pose leaning slightly forward with chin in hand, it was designed to show a touch of playfulness and agility, bringing the atmosphere to life alongside the traditional Japanese paper umbrella and bell ornaments.
Being an official finished photo set, requirements for makeup and hair were exceptionally high. The blue-green highlighted wig paired with cat ears, along with light blue colored contacts, deliberate eye contact, and calibrated expressions were all designed to instantly convey the character's charm. Throughout the shoot, the photographer paid meticulous attention to blending physical posture with light and shadow, such as having natural light fall directly on the White stockings to prevent blown-out highlights while highlighting their delicate, lightweight texture. Although the costume looks exquisite, wearing it requires mindfulness regarding posture and preventing wardrobe malfunctions. While shooting the entire session was tiring, seeing the light trace the character's silhouette so perfectly in the viewfinder made everything worthwhile. Sharing portions of this set today serves to document how this portrayal came to life before the lens.
